The pain he experiences from protracting his claws gives him an adrenaline rush which helps him to take on anything. It's part of his animalistic mutation and I think it's super cool.

It's also known that his healing is tied to his emotion, that's why it takes more or less time to heal depending how mad he is. So it's a benefit when he pulls out the claws, cause he's already in healing mode.

Wolverine: Doctor, it hurts every time I release my claws.
Doctor: Stop releasing your claws.

I kinda liked the concept of his gloves containing the claws rather than giving him hell when we uses his powers but, the pain he experiences day in and day out is what make the wolverine we love.

If anyone remembers the old xmen video games, when you played as wolverine and took your claws out, his health would dimish slowly without even being attacked. But his benefit against others was when he put the claws away he would replenish his health

It's stupid that there is no blood in his claws whenever he use them

The Adamantium makes his claws sharper than his original bone claws. 🎉

I like the version of the clause that they made in the newest marvel encyclopedia where the were the claws are actually attached to muscle and spring forward almost like their spring loaded

IMO I feel like the natural bone claws probably had proper slits to come out and thus didn’t hurt since they were a normal part of his mutation, it was the adding of Adamantium that made the claws slightly bigger than what they were naturally so they cut him on the way out and in. That’s just my theory though.

Ironically the original design for the claws was painless. Before the bone claw retcon his hands and arms had artificial sheaths and channelways built into his hands, wrist, and arms for the claws to slide through so they didn't cut him going in and out. The metal cylinders on his upper palms used to be plugs designed to keep blood and debris from going into those channels to avoid infection.

The Smosh video way back then told me everything I needed to know on why I shouldn’t want his powers🤣

The claws literally cut through his bones and tissues every time they go in and out of his arm. Not to mention they also cut him on the inside every time he moves as well like when he moves his wrist. Bro is literally in constant pain all the time which is half the reason he drinks so much to numb his physical pain.

The whole “claws popping out of the wrist thing sounds like it could at least be useful as a surprise attack, like a more visceral and macabre version of the Assassin’s Creed Hidden Blades.

The main reason why it’s impractical is because people irl don’t heal instantly so if someone used them even if it was the correct way they would cut through your skin and not instantly heal after going back into the body. Like you said if we had gloves then at least we wouldn’t have to worry about the claws coming out the wrong way but it would still hurt alot to use them each time

I think X-Men Origins really does a good job of demonstrating Logan’s claw biology (say what you want, I think it’s a great movie). It’s not the most robust system, and if not for his healing factor, they probably wouldn’t work, which explains why his mutation gave him both of the two powers, rather than just one like most mutants.

Drunk wolverine almost looks like he's going to assassinate some inquisitors

If you were using the claws in real life if you weren't a mutant it would probably be some sort of gauntlets but if you did have the mutant power to just heal in real life you'd probably just get used to it.
