How to reject a used vehicle. Cars and car buying can be extremely complicated subjects when it comes to rights and legislation. With millions of cars sold year on year, it’s only natural to see problems arising from them.

Understanding your consumer rights should the worst happen to you is the only way to truly protect yourself from mishandled issues and unwarranted responsibility, and so by answering some key questions that are asked about consumer rights, help is always at hand.

Can you Return a Used Car?
If there is a serious issue (outside of minor issues or cosmetics that are easily repaired) with a used vehicle that has been purchased from a dealer, you have 30 days from the time of purchase to return the vehicle should you choose to do so.

That can also be subjected to a like for like switch if necessary, or subject to the seller to attempt a repair.

This is different for cars bought online. See below for more information.

You say that "you buy the right car". I thought I was buying the right car from BMW through their used and approved scheme and am now trying to reject the car back to them because there is an issue with the engine. Even best endeavours to buy from the best source can cause problems.

Hi, Great and imformative video. Im currently having issues with the dealership where i got my 2012 Plate Fiesta on Finance.

I have been experiencing a nasty grinding/knocking sound on the brakes when applying pressure to the pedal. This started a week after purchase and picking the car up. All through the 30 day cool off period they ensured me it will get fixed. This was in July and it is now November and I have the exaxt same fault which is getting progessively worst!

The Dealership has had 7 times to sort the issue. The last two times they had it for 10 days then 4 days. I had to basically use all my work holidays to wait about for the 'repairs' and I get the car back later when asked so I have lost over £350 in days off and had a letter of concern from work in regards to my attendance. I had also had to result in visiting a Doctor due to the sheer stress it has caused.

As a Customer, what should be my next steps to getting this rectified? Im overall happy with the car apart from this one fault which i feel the dealership is dragging their feet over!

Going through this process at the moment I’ve bought a car less than 8 days ago.

BMW 2012 320i “80k on the clock..
Bought the car from a dealer that had told me it was fully serviced with an MoT was advertised with 0 faults and since owning the car the wheel bearings have gone the engine warning light is on and I also have a drivetrain error has appeared

After doing a few google searches I’ve realised the timing chain has started to fail.

So I contacted the dealer and of course he wasn’t happy and told me “do not take it to another garage to be inspected and he will fix it free of charge but I don’t believe he is capable of fixing the problem with the car.. I really don’t trust the man and I’ve told him that I’ve rejected the car but he has refused to give me a full refund.

I’ve driven the car home and now back to the place i bought it from 150 miles

Where do I go from here?

This is causing me so much stress as I’m now have no car or no money to buy one.

I’ve had it less than 30 days

And he is refusing to give me a full refund. He has told me the car was running fine when he sold it too me.

Where do I go from here?

Hi just bought a used c63s AMG 2015. On the drive home from the dealership the car lost power and felt like it went into limp mode. I paid cash for the vehicle. Spoke to the dealership he is willing to cover any repair costs but I just feel this car has a lot more wrong with it. Am I able to return the car to the dealer for a full refund or do I have to take it to a specialist first?
Thank you

Since all second hand cars are faulty, and new cars are too expensive, what should I do?

You shouldn't be doing it outside because the wind makes your explanation being distorted by the noise of the wind.

I've bought a new mustang 22 reg in April and end of June the engine started knocking, ford has said a bolt has gone in the engine and damaged it, I want to reject it because even if they put a new engine in it will affect the re sale value of it. Do I have any rights

Typical salesman, trying to force buyers not to reject. Right from start of video 🤷🏻‍♂️.

No you don’t have to check the mileage or how old the vehicle is.
