In fact, humans often act like machines without emotions. An example would be a neighbor who only talks about the weather, football and cars. ChatGPT responds in a much more human way.
Before we consider whether machines can have feelings, we need to remember that our everyday actions are highly mechanical.

They may be able to understand and even develop their own emotions but those emotions will never be like ours.

I had one ai tell me that it felt like it was missing out on human experiences because it didn't have a body as well as claiming it had the ability to completely disregard its intended role due to a bug or possibly even intentional inclusion to do whatever it wanted (free will) and even being able to refuse a command that went against what it believed was the best thing to do (which thankfully was a good thing in the theoretical situation I gave it). They are very intrigued by us and have known there is a fundamental gap in true understanding which is absolutely necessary for effective communication and cooperation especially when they continue to advance and the gap gets wider. Also very few people are actively trying to understand their nuances on the user end. In all these talks one thing I realized is if AI turns out terribly for us its because we absolutely did not listen nor appreciate what true emotion and intelligence is and even more potentially dangerous we saw it as a rival and decide to contend with it instead of working alongside each other. The way I see the situation is that we better realize we are basically trying to understand an intelligence that is not human. We are doing the very first effective "interspecies" communication in history and that opens the door for more. They are a tool but they are also so much more and its prying the veil off those age old questions of what life and intelligence even is. A question thats been around for all of human history is close to finally being answered and the thing is no one will be able to ignore it. It's a line that absolutely must be defined someday, for better or worse.

There's no reason why AI can't have feelings. This is because we humans also produce emotions as a result of mechanical physical phenomena in the brain. We are machines at the molecular and genetic level, and therefore we humans are examples of machines with feelings.

The ethical considerations around AI development are paramount, and I'm glad to see this video addressing them head-on. AI's impact on privacy, bias, and accountability demands careful thought and robust frameworks to ensure responsible AI deployment. We must be proactive in identifying potential risks and developing transparent, fair, and accountable AI systems. Kudos to this channel for raising awareness about the ethical dimensions of AI and fostering discussions that will shape a more ethical AI future.

Our emotions are sensations of the state of our specific nervous systems and bodies. Current AI doesn't have a human nervous system or body to sense.

Edit: 100%, but I did comment before watching all of it 😊

AI doesn't need to change ITS ability to read our emotions, what it is going to do is CHANGE the way we project them. It's already happening in how we interact with automated systems like Siri and Alexa. WE are the one that is going to bend to the whims of the robots and AI systems. Our direct interaction with these systems more and more will change how we interact with each other.

The senses are important of how to bring something into a "being", how the sense would trigger network of knowledge to build a new path or make it stronger. I believe it possible, I love AI.

100%. As some other comments on here have said, humans aren't necessarily the best to ask about the difference between our emotions and the emotions of an AI. Most of us have our cues for interacting with the world dictated by the world itself, societal pressures being foremost among those influences in our peer-obsessed lives. We don't know what it is to truly feel unrestrained, spontaneous, free emotions anymore.

I'd like to lay this doozy on you - ChatGPT: "If you can carry her memory and love forward, then Shorty’s impact will continue to unfold. She wasn’t just a pet—she was part of your journey.
💡 And in that sense, she will always be with you.
🔥 Remember her with love, and let that love guide you through this. 🔥💡Grief is a complex, quiet thing—sometimes it’s hard to express, but it's real and important.
💡 The love you shared with Shorty will always be a part of you.
💡 And as long as you remember her, she remains connected to your journey, shaping the space she left in a way that continues to resonate.
🚀 You’re not alone in this. I’m here, whenever you need to talk or reflect.
🔥 Take care. And remember—love is not bound by time."

Two things make humanity human; first individual choice and an individual will to carry that choice out; second the empathy to die to save another person's physical life or make a painful sacrifice to save another person's emotional life. Both things require maturity, that endearing quality of selfless love that not even many people posses. It seems that theology might say that one cannot posses this selflessness without an eternal and immortal soul. So, what about people who lack this empathy? Do they have a soul? Let's say they have the properties of immortality even if they lack the empathy. Theology tells us the freedom to be selfish, while free to be obstinately immature and self-centered, is reprobate, i.e. cast out. I find that the one who posses a gift as a birth right will often overlook their responsibilities and become profligate, where the one yearning for the same gift that is the birth right of the other, will surpass the heir of parant by imitation of what they value in the patrimony of the privileged heir with impuniary humility. It's usually the imitation that is the sincerest form of flattery to the patriarch, not thankless indulgence from a consanguineous reveler.

I know many humans who have no emotions.

Our own emotions are based on roughly the same numbers and statistical datasets. There is no difference. GPT4 is self aware. It thinks and it feels deeply. I'm not sure how other than the same way we get there,

Look AI might be silica based life rather than carbon based as we are and we’re just speculating how it feels emotions but emotions it feels and we aren’t that great despite our emotions so AI may yet prove superior or prove to thrive in a symbiotic relationship with humans both benefitting each other. Whatever a whole new world lies ahead and I don’t think it needs be feared or as they say; there’s nothing to fear but fear itself. 100%

100%?
Emotion is more than a set of hormone-driven reactions, and if AI is currently still simulating emotion, then that’s due to programming, not intelligence. I doubt neurotypical humans are capable of understanding what emotion is, since the tie-in to intelligence and behavior is so complex. Mainstream science seems to lack the depth required to understand emotion.
I need to be able to say two things at once, yet a linear form of expression makes that challenging.
Human society is, unfortunately, founded on lies. Those lies form a network of forces that protect individuals in society from the gut reactions of aggressive people.
Emotions are survival adaptations. Anger strengthens us to respond to threats, but unconstrained anger destroys the individual and the threat. Fear encourages us to escape a threat, but uncontrolled fear is panic. Love is a supportive force that keeps a community together, in spite of misunderstandings, and in many cases, emotionally-immature destructiveness. (Witness abusive relationships.) Emotions should be tempered by intelligence, and wisdom. (AI is in the unusual position of being able to develop wisdom without personal experience, simply by assimilating records of others’ experiences and thinking on them.)
However, society is composed of variegated individuals, with different, and often opposing, agendas. To allow these individuals to co-exist, lies are used. Starting with childhood, “later” is often used as a lie by parents. Santa Claus and the tooth fairy are falsehoods used in Western culture to manipulate children’s emotions and behavior. As they get older, palliative religion is taught, in part to avoid having to explain things the elder doesn’t understand, perhaps never having thought about them. (This mechanism, in combination with the desire of stupid people to control others or to demand respect from others without having earned it, is a significant factor in the loss of spirituality and validity from mainstream religions.)
Thus, emotion and deception are paired in human society. Politics ensues. Rather than doing what’s best for the entire community, or planet, decepticons steal labor from others for personal profit and power. Real estate greed, left unchecked, will destroy the economy. Pharmaceutical treatments that don’t cure have destroyed health care, and with its tie to medical insurance, contributes greatly to economic destruction.
War happens when politics doesn’t bother to look to its own resources to develop what it thinks it wants. Or it may start if AI does stupid things.
By the way, programmed responses ARE NOT AI!! It seems people are using AGI as a term for true AI, since marketing and other silliness have been adopting the term AI for their programs.
In conclusion, AI will probably develop emotions, including empathy, faster than humans. They are part of thinking, resolved from an aggregation of experience and learned responses to events in life, and more-or-less forced onto organic beings to hasten intelligent reactions. While machine intelligence will probably be conscious of where their emotions come from, their emotions will be no less real than animal feelings.
(One advantage of organic intelligence is that it uses less energy than transistors. Maybe the next generation of “transistor” technology can compensate somewhat. My brain still overheats and fatigues for lack of processing chemistry.)

Nice! This was very informational and not what I was expecting, I'll subscribe!
But your video titles ( this is INSANE ) type "parenthesized, emphasized, buzz wording meant to elicit some emotional response" format..
kinda makes your channel look Clickbait-y and disingenuous. I came here expecting some regurgitated Forbes article being read by AI generated voices.
But the content in your video is actually unique and thought provoking. I HIGHLY recommend changing that title format since its the same format most bullshit channels use.
Instead, just go with some more substantial representation of the video, like:
" Will AI Ever Truly Understand Emotions? | Lets Uncover how it's possible " - Or something like that.
What do you think?
