I fail to understand why people speaking a slavic language, living in a country that was only partially incorporated into the Ancient Macedonian Empire, would claim Greek heritage. You people don t even use the same bloody alphabet lol.

Also, saying that FYROM people are related to Ancient Macedonians, claiming Greek culture and Alexander (born in Pella, Greek Macedonia) is like I dunno, the Germans would say they re Romans because a part of Germany was under Roman rule (which they funnily did in a way through the HRE) or the English claiming to be French because they were once ruled by the Normans, who were Scandinavian-French.

It s ludacrious, just stop. Your country should be named Vardar or something among those lines. Def not FYROM, North Macedonia or even worse, Macedonia.

PS: i m not biased, but I m triggered by the lack of historical knowledge of the people involved on the “Macedonian” side of the dispute nor am I Greek or anything related to Greeks.

The name Macedonia existed 1000 years before the Slavs came in the region. How can it be Slavic?

From my own knowledge and research on the topic, Greece seems to be in the right. It honestly sounds like FYROM doesn't have enought history to be proud of so they appropirate the Greek one. I mean Macedonians from FYROM are generically Slavs not Greeks, and Slavs arrives in the area long after Alexander the Great pasted away. Are we seriously in a time were facts don't matter?

I'm from FYROM and I am really ashamed and sorry for all these things. Macedonia is in Greece, we have nothing to do with them and I don't understand why we should want to. We should have mutual respect to each other and we Slavic people should make our own new history.. Is it bad to be slav people?I don't think so.Why should we want something else? I'm so sorry for the Greek guys in Macedonia, I hope that one day they will forgive us and love us as friendly neighbors...

Their first flag was the sun of vergina. Vergina is in Greece. They were claiming having occupied territories by Greeks. It's not just the name.

A Slovene here. Slovenia and Macedonia were formerly part of Yugoslavia. I never understood why Macedonia became so radicaly entrenched into it's name and why macedonians are so dead set to sell themselves as the cultural descendants of ancient Macedonia. They are slavs, who live in the geographical region called Macedonia, but they have no connection with ancient Greece or Alexander the Great whatsoever. They only gave the country they live in the same name as the region it lies in.

Love to Greece. I know what it feels like when some countries try to steal famous historical figures.

I am Bulgarian. I agree with Greece. We all know that Alexander the Great was Macedonian, his teachers were Greek, his language was Greek, his gods were Greek and in general his culture was Greek. So any normal person would assume that he was Greek. A Greek state, just like the Spartans and the Athenians or Minoans...they were all Greek, so why wouldn't Macedonians be? And Bulgaria and our language was created in 681AD with their own language and the Cyrillic alphabet that our friends from Greece helped us create. FYROM was created in 1991. They have no history, no name, no language and no culture. They just happen to be on a land of rich history, that doesn't make them part of that history. And instead of trying to create their own things they steal from all of us. I understand 99% of what they speak, so there is no Macedonian language, they speak slavic Bulgarian, period. Macedonia was a region of Greece before they even existed, so that makes their claim on the name invalid. I feel sorry for Greece and the fact that they allowed them to use the term North Macedonia, I feel offended and I am not even Greek. I hope that we will never allow them to call our language their own!

If a bunch of chinese people migrated to Sparta, called themselves spartans and said that Leonidas was their ancestor they would look stupid. Why is it that slavs can call themselves Macedonians and get away with it?

Macedonia is historically, archaeologically, factually Greek.

Some reasons, why Macedonia is Greek.
1) The Ancient Macedonia was a Greek Kingdom, in today's Northern Greece. Was not a different country!
2) The Ancient Macedonians were a Greek Tribe, in today's Northern Greece. Were not a different ethnic group!
3) The Ancient Macedonians had ''GREEK''... Language... Names... Toponyms... Religion... Calendar... Architecture... Customs... Habits... and participated in the ancient ''Olympic Games'', where only ''GREEKS'' could participate!
4) Alexander the Great and the Ancient Macedonians spread to Asia the ''GREEK'' Language and Culture!
5) All Archaeological Findings (Monuments, Coins, Statues, Tombs) in the territory of the Ancient Greek Kingdom of Macedonia, in today's Northern Greece, have only ''GREEK'' Letters... and ''GREEK'' Architecture !
6) Look for the ''Argead Dynasty'' and you'll see the origin of the GREEK Royal Family of the Ancient Macedonia !
7) Aristotle, the Famous ''Greek'' Philoshopher was from ''Stagira'' in the Ancient Greek Kingdom of Macedonia, in today's Northern Greece. All his writings are in ''GREEK'' Language.
So, it's clearly for everyone that. Alexander the Great and the Ancient Macedonians were 100% GREEKS!
(There are other proven facts documented by archaeologists and historians, but some others hide the truth about geopolitical / financial interests, for example NATO's military bases in skopje to show strength against Russia

It's more than political. Its also the brand name 'Made in Macedonia' The Greek province of Macedonia have invested a lot in quality products that carry the brand 'Made in Macedonia' It is the same as the island of Crete that brand their products 'Made in Crete' Both brands enjoy widespread respect from both local and international markets. Now the problem with FYROM is they also use the same brand 'Made in Macedon' which is misleading and has many Greek producers in Greek Macedonia very worried about losing their brand. Imagine if the province of Brittany in France started to brand their products 'Made in Britain' The British would sh8t themselves

I've actual visited Phillip the 2nd burial mound and tomb he was a member of the Argead dynasty of Macedonian Kings his tomb is in Vergina . Born382 bc ard died 336 . Greece has the only right to the name Macedonia .

Ancient Macedonians were Greek. The people of that country are Slavs, Bulgarians and Albanians, no Greek blood or language whatsoever, even though they occupy a piece of land that was part of Ancient Macedonia. To take the name Macedonia and call themselves Macedonians is simply out of place and an insult to the true Greek Macedonians.
