Rey Skywalker. At the end of Star Wars Episode 9 The Rise of Skywalker, Rey was asked what her last name was. She looked into the distance and saw a force ghost of Luke and Leia. Instead of choosing a name like Palpatine, Organa, Solo, or Nobody, she decided to choose the name Rey Skywalker. But why did Rey make this decision? Admittedly, Rey being a nobody helped continue the mystery of her bloodline and allowed the storywriters to have the final act in the trilogy be the one to answer the question, Ryan Johnson did JJ Abrams a favor, even though it wasn’t known if Abrams would be doing TROS at the time. But in the end, Rey’s heritage being fully revealed was just as compelling as her being a nobody.

Very well said, totally agree.
I recently rewatched the trilogy and I noticed something other really beautiful about the final scene: the last word which is said in the Skywalker saga is "Skywalker"

I think Rey Skywalker is a good story, and it's fairly well told in TRoS. There's a powerful inherent drama to adoption stories and Daisy plays it beautifully.

BUT, it comes at the expense of the fascinating meta narrative that was already being told with Rey Nobody. It feels like a weird left turn, and the thematic riches of the Nobody storyline are just left hanging.
Also the reveal that the main character is the child of the villain can't help but feel redundant of the Luke/Vader dynamic.

I love stories of adoption, but I think the Sequel Trilogy would have been stronger if they just ran with the Nobody story we were left with at the end of TLJ.

I love that the Skywalker Saga, aka the conflict between the Skywalkers and the Palpatines, ends with a Palpatine, the last survivor of the two families, taking the Skywalker name by choice and choosing her own path, even though a much darker one was laid out for her. Great video, happy to see more ST related vids!

Rey is Han and Leia’s lost daughter and Kylo’s twin, which explains her power, name and the Dyad she shares with Kylo. I refuse to except any other backstory for Rey.

Well said, Rey's character has always been about identity and finding belonging. A message many stepping out into the world by themselves for the first time can relate too. As well as those undergoing a huge shift in their identity or life situation, upending what they previous had.

I always loved how Star Wars had this trend of chosen family- Han and Chewie, Obi-Wan and Anakin, Mando and Grogu, the crew of the ghost, etc. Rey choosing the name Skywalker after spending her time looking for any kind of family just feels so fitting for her arc, especially with how she’s portrayed in the beginning of 9. I love your take on this!!

I prefer her searching out her mom's name and learning her parents story and how they came together than upon learning the family name take it and pass the Skywalker name down to the next generation

If rey accepted any other name, some people would hate on that as well
To quote tech from the bad batch episode 1
"Well, I thought was obvious" why she took the name skywalker
Like she's got nothing to do with organa, or solo
Rey nobody means she would be the same person after episode 8 - no character growth
Rey palatine would be giving into her fears, contradicting the statement 'some things stronger than blood', and plus the name skywalker burns his legacy, the 1 name that brought peace to the galaxy and killed the most evil person -- skywalker, it makes narrative sense

That is absolutely true, that she wanted a family name. But also, I feel that she wanted to dedicate to the Skywalker family, since there are no members of them left. ...And it would've been interesting if she took that to marry Ben anyway. Either way, I am surprised, that a load of fans hate her taking the name...as well as hating her in general.
