Oxygen can be made via abiotic processes from little batteries forged from the earth over millions of years?

Speaking as someone who worked as an environmental engineer with the offshore oil industry, I'd be more worried about the governments of the world than the companies themselves. Offshore mining requires government contracts, which heavily penalizes defaulting by mining concerns. If this is a thing and environmental issue, people need to let their representatives know ASAP.

Maybe it's not a constant process? Like that natural nuclear reactor in Africe. A layer of oxidation or sand builds up on the surface of the material which halts the process until the layer is removed?
