There was once a couple who missed their ships departure. They arrived late at night to find their ship gone. They were mad because “they had left a note on their bed for their room steward that they would be back at around 1 am or so”. 🤣

We had an cruise delayed in Greece once because one passenger was still missing. The port was a mess with big 4 ships anchoring at the same time and everyone just running around. It took the crew 30 Minutes to realise that the women sitting on one of the anchor pillars with her back to our ship taking selfies was in fact the missing passenger. Everyone was just baffled by the amount of stupidity

I guarantee you they are not embarrassed at all. There are a group of people in the world that feels the world revolves around them. Thousands can make it on time.

the officer faking as a pier runner was hilarious XD

I was always told that the ship would not wait on you, unless you were delayed because of a ship’s excursion causing the delay.

The walk/jog between 2 ships with everybody jeering and screaming looks like one's first walk into prison.

After enough cruises, you don't even bother going on excursions. This is the time when you almost get the ship to yourself and get to enjoy the pool and restaurants and maybe even the spa.

I was once the reason our cruise ship left late. My family went on an excursion to the rainforest out of San Juan and on the way back our bus got two flat tires. Thankfully no one was injured but we were super late getting back to port because they had to send vans to pick us up on the side of the road. It was booked through the cruise line so they had to wait for us.

Pier runners are the best! The best one was when the guy was getting ahead of the lady my husband started yelling leave her behind she’s holding you up!

My mom fell asleep in Ocho Rios (while the rest of us did the waterfalls) and we could not find her for an hour. Thanks to her, my brother, dad and I had to be pier runners and it wasn't even our fault. I was mortified. But it's a pretty good story 16 years later :-)

the people who were walking back to the ship after being very late and then decided to flip the other passengers off honestly deserve to be fined. the ship has to pay money to be docked plus all the fuel and electricity it’s using and all the lost time for the next days port. maybe then they’d decide to move their asses

“Run Forest Run” has got to be the most apt and amusing pier runner heckle, I have a sneaky suspicion that it has been used on many an occasion. 👍🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇺🇦😀

1. *Always be aware of departure time and plan to arrive at the port on time.*
2. Departure time runs on *ship time* and not necessarily local time.
3. The ship *will* leave without you unless you booked the excursion through the cruise line.

We were on an Alaskan cruise in 2010 that left 5 passengers at Juneau. They arrived just in time for me to snap a couple of pictures of them standing on the parking lot, watching the rest of us leave. They did an at-sea boarding later that night from a small charter boat.

To quote a pier runner I meet in Nassau. "Senor Frog is a bad bad man".

So true about getting left behind as a crew member. We lost half of our dance troupe of the ship at one stop when some of the showgirls/dancers disembarked to fool around on shore, only to be left behind. They had to pay out of purse to be flown to the next stop.

Out of 7 years of my experience, I've only seen that happen once. I only spend about 3 hours on land, then the other hours I spend back on the boat enjoying it without the crowd!
