China's State Council recently published the “Nine-Point Guideline”, which includes measures to encourage dividend payment and plug corporate governance loopholes. Investors hope this will help spur a revival in the nation’s struggling stock market, much like the previous plans did in 2004 and 2014. But Jason Lui, head of APAC Equity and Derivative Strategy from BNP Paribas, highlights the guideline itself may not be enough to repeat those surprising return in previous two episodes. one simple question for Jason Liu. Can you trust the Chinese regulators in enforcing companies engaging in international accounting standards ie no fake accounting. The rewards for management seems not in raising shareholder values but in whatever it takes to support government demands and policies.
