Improving access to specialist advice using eConsult

The Champlain BASE (Building Access to Specialists through eConsultation) eConsult service is a secure online platform connecting primary care providers and specialists. The service offers patients more efficient, integrated and coordinated care while delivering improved access to specialty care through the use of low-cost and easy-to-use technology. At the end of this webinar, participants should be able to define eConsult and its benefits to patients and providers; describe the eConsult services available through the Ontario eConsult program; and determine if eConsult is something they can incorporate into their practice/role.

Dr. Erin Keely is a professor in the department of medicine at the University of Ottawa and former chief of endocrinology at the Ottawa Hospital. She is the co-founder of the Champlain BASE eConsult service and specialist lead of the Ontario eConsult centre of excellence. Her research interests in obstetric medicine, communication between providers, and eConsult have been supported by funding through the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Diabetes Canada and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, resulting in over 150 published papers.
