The Red Lotus is one of the most feared bending groups in the Four Nations, and that's probably why they were locked away by the White Lotus in such high security prisons! While Zaheer, P'Li, Ming Hua, and Ghazan were locked up successfully for years –– the White Lotus could never have anticipated Zaheer gaining airbending abilities and leading the Red Lotus to break free. Even the full might of the White Lotus, Team Avatar, and Firelord Zuko couldn't stop them!

i like how Zaheer seems to strategize the order he frees his friends in, seeming to know who would be easiest to free and who he'd need help with(Ming Hua was necessary to free P'Li, but to get Ming Hua he'd need Ghazan's help which is why he frees him first) also notice how the Red Lotus theme seems to build in intensity each time a member is freed

I like that detail at 1:26 how the earthbender is the only one to stay on his feet while the others get knocked down

I'm gonna say it. A self made airbender with a clearly big brain, A water bender without arms, some dude forming lava from rocks, a female version of ATLA combustion man but with more power.

This is the one of the scariest group that any animated series has to offer

What’s truly scary about Zaheer is that despite originally being born a non bender he was locked up far from civilization, on a mountain, guarded by five benders. That goes to show how dangerous he really is.

Zaheer really showed how terrifying an evil Airbender can be. I wonder if airbenders went through a violent time in their past sort of like the fire nation and decided to go back to the ways of peace and nomadic life because of it

Zaheer's imprisonment of the guards seemed to me at first cruel, until I remembered that the earth bender can get them out as soon as he wakes. Zheer was still evil though

You can’t deny they’re all gifted benders. The earth bender turns rocks into lava. The armless girl makes arms by constantly bending water on her torso and then makes that a weapon/tool. She like her predecessor makes explosions with her mind but with more precision. And that guy bend air like he’s been doing it his whole life instead of five minutes

Notice in book 3, they were defeated in the backwards order where they were freed. First P'li, then Ming-Hua then Ghazan then Zaheer.

0:46 I really like how even though Zaheer is up against the wall and there should be nothing for him to be able to grapple them with and at this point they think he's still an non-bender, they're still on guard. Really makes you wonder how Zaheer got imprisoned where he did.

Two generational waterbending prodigies, a water bending master, firelord Zuko, a dragon and a bunch of white lotus guards and they made them all look like amateurs. That's when we knew these guys were THE threat of the series.

I love when “disabled” benders are stronger because of it. Similar to Toph’s blindness.

Fun fact: Ghazan's lavabending uses the martial arts form called bajiquan. It's a fighting style that uses explosive elbow and knee strikes. You'll notice it when you look at his body as he's lavabending.

5:24 Ming-hua is kiterslly INSANE. Fought 2 TWIN earth-style using water benders that turned WATER INTO ICE GLACIERS and she SWUNG on them like TARAZAN, trapped them in ice, TURNED INTO AN ICE DRILL and dug STRAIGHT INTO THE GROUND

People sleep on Korra cause it’s not Aang, but man the creators REALLY innovated in the combat and how it was used
