Just remember a RAID is not a backup. Having all your data in one place is now a single point of failure. Should have another one of these being cloned in a different location or also syncing the most important stuff to a cloud service (ideally one you host yourself)

I added a small one to my apartment a few years ago. it's been amazing.

The thing that held me back from getting it was the lack of understanding how the remote access worked and the additional equipment (cost/effort). This made it more understandable

I swear this guy lives in my brain... I was just looking into getting a NAS a few days ago 🤨

The remote access might be the thing I need. I genuinely might set up one for my mom’s house. Especially with my sisters having as many family photos as they have.

As a Music producer, seeing you and Jay's desk setups raises massive red flags hahahaha.

Some advice for you both. Ensure you have proper sound absorption (Auralex panels will be great for this), and also get those Output monitors off of them horrible stands!!! I'd recommend the IsoAcoustics, either the ISOPucks to go inbetween your monitors and the stands, or replace the stands with the ISO 200. Trust me, you'll notice a huge difference. I have the Iso 155s for my music production setup, and as soon as I got them off of solid surfaces, the low end cleaned up really nicely. With Jay's Genelecs though, I'd recommend he remove the base of each one and put them on the same ISO 200 stands. Yes, his do have room correction built in, but trust me, your audio will be 10x cleaner.

You can do virtualization on it as well for some of the higher productivity models. Synology is definitely a Godsend for any creative needing to have a consistent and convenient place for storage. Encrypting all traffic, the download station as well 👌

I remember being introduced to Nas, hits for days.

Synology just sending out NAS systems left and right and us common folk who also need it but can’t afford it are sitting back looking like like ima run out of space before I can get one. 😭

I have to give props to Synology, but for what they offer, there are other systems that are completely comparable. Their price just kills it for most people

Hopefully they setup another NAS offsite to backup the first NAS. 3-2-1 backup rule.

If yah editors work remotely you could use geolocation as part of the verification to sign in and download/upload files but use a virtual machine that only has the relevant files on to access remotely- I love to make a one looks cool - compress and encrypt backup to cloud or send onetime file to cloud to remotely download that would be cool to work remotely. Nice Vid

Having everything in one location is great but also makes one point of failure. Make sure there are multiple copies of all data! Honestly if I was you I would have the same size NAS in the office and at home and have them back each other up.

Do you have a redundant system in a separate location? A 190tb plus loss would be soul crushing.
