I like Harcourt's character. He feels more 'real' of an uninterested board member than just someone to get in Milo's way. He thinks Milo is being crazy, but doesn't dismiss him as worthless or unwanted, like a cheap villain would.

I think those board of directors were possibly based on Mr Bank’s colleagues from the Fidelity fiduciary bank. Considering this film is set four years after the film it could be a coincidence.

To be honest, Milo was lucky that the curator didn't allow him to go to Iceland. The book was already with Mr Whitmore. Had he gone to Iceland and come back empty handed, his career would have been over before it even started.
