Meridian tiny home owner files lawsuit against the city

The City of Meridian ordered Chasidy Decker to leave her tiny home in Meridian for violating city code, according to Decker. She is now homeless.

So, for anyone who OWNS an RV on private property, and plugs it in to their house's grid, or enters it, to prepare it for a trip or post-trip, would be considered in violation of that ban, in reality. That, in itself, would be grounds to violate this city ban, because those RVs aren't parked in an RV park! This tiny home is considered in the same conditions, then. So, if you're going to block her from being in it, then you should block ALL of the residents who have RVs on private property. All or nothing.

I live in Winnemucca and you should see the homeless they're coming from Idaho from California congregating here under our bridges it's very scary! So many people are homeless now why would they care if that little home is parked there? They should be ashamed of themselves!

Housing is a human right and folks should be able to live how they choose to provide for themselves and their families. Unfortunately you can't just ignore and go against the regulations just because you disagree with them. You have to put in the work to change them.

I have spent an entire year working with the planning and zoning commission in East Windsor Connecticut to change the regulations to allow for tiny houses. As of last Tuesday THOWs are allowed, via special use permits, to be parked on a lot with a single family residence to be used as a permanent dwelling. This will permit me and my husband to park our THOW on my grandparents property to be close by to help them age in their home. It's just the first step in fully legalizing tiny houses in Connecticut but we the people have to go through the motions to make the changes.

I support her 100%. However, it is wise to inspect the zoning requirements in an area you are deciding to place a tiny home. My county requires 700 sq feet. You might be able to apply for a variance permit under certain conditions. Best of luck to you, gal.

The best place to place tiny homes are in "tiny towns". Communities that have less than 1, 000 people.
