Why Nintendo Finally Made the Mario Movie

The Super Mario Bros Movie came out earlier this week, but *why* did it get made? Why did Nintendo finally decide it was time to try again, and why partner with Illumination instead of all the other movie studios who were desperate for the rights to Mario?

Do you ever start making a video, and get, like 95% of it finished, and then struggle to get that last 5% done for the next week until the video is no longer as topical, all because it's the school Easter holidays and you're juggling work and childcare and this YouTube channel and everything just grinds to a halt?

No? Just me?

Well, that's what happened. This video was an awful lot more timely when we started it. But still, it's all about Mario, so hopefully people will care.

Also, how good is Jack Black in this film? So good, that's how good. Chris Pratt is also in the film, but I'm gonna say that I still prefer Bob Hoskins in the role.

Oh, and Toad is the best character, and I enjoyed Donkey Kong and Luigi. Kinda saw Peach's role in the script coming, it would've been nice if Anya Taylor-Joy had been given a little more to do beyond act cool.

Ummmmm that's the end of this description, I think.

Lots of love,
BretonStripes and Kotor

Our daughter may or may not have a review for the movie coming next week, we'll see how things go.

The moral of the story: It’s okay to do something different, but make sure it’s done right!

The Universal parks are definitely a big part of the movie

The mushroom kingdom resembles the park, you randomly have Mario Kart, and the intro of DK and his land resemble the concepts for the expansion currently in development.

Even if it might seem like an easy way to make money, Nintendo is mainly known for making games and films can became more timeless than games being seen as “old” for new gamers

Ironic how the same franchise that started the video game movie curse would be the one that would finally break it.

Also, I would LOVE to see Genndy Tartakovsky work on a Nintendo movie.

Also, the Minions are *HUGE* in Japan. Like, "printed on the packaging of toast spread" huge. If you can advertise the Mario movie as coming from the studio behind the minions, that's a guaranteed sale in Japan.

It's funny because let's not forget that it was Universal that sued Nintendo over Donkey Kong lol

Miyamoto using terms such as "video content" and "collaboration, " brings a tear to my eye, he's finally into the hip lingo 😭

TBH I want future movies to have their creators as consultants.
Like Kirby can have Mr sakurai and kumazaki for instance.

I'm so glad sony lost the rights. The fact that they were aiming to make 4 Mario movies straight away, was very telling how unworthy they were.

So to get a Mario RPGs (original, Paper, M&L...) movie we need a Mario RPGs theme park first.
Bean kingdom here we come!

I'm more surprised they didn't really dip their toes in a lot earlier after Pokemon basically blew up with their tv series and movies though.

Japanese are more eager to be willing to work with you if you show them the proper respect, got introduce by those they trust and able to click by interacting with them over a period of time. They only trust you if they think they know you enough. This means you don't just go to them, make a offer and pay check and hope they accept it. You first have to try to make appointment, go personally to speaks to them, invite them to diner, get to know them and spend days slowly smooth things over. This involve a lot of drinking by the way. Only once they liked you enough, are they willing to speak about any future business cooperation.

Avi Arad mistake was likely that he was tooting his horn too soon. And didn't respect them enough to wait for the deal to truly happen before already telling everyone he knows that he manage to strike a deal. It kinda makes you untrustworthy because you cannot keep secrets until the deal is official.

The Live-Action Mario Movie is not the first movie to be a theatrical video game adaptation; that would be "The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach" back in 1986; and it too was animated. So, adaptations on video games work better in animation rather than Live-Action, because the game world has to be as extremely outlandish.
