How To Practice Ball Position, Width of Stance and Foot Position

Whether you are a beginner, or more advanced player, you need to make sure your ball position, width of stance and foot position are perfect. I say this because these are 3 setup elements that you need to be checking constantly so you don't do them wrong.

Keep in mind when you do your set up you are not in motion. So your set up elements should never be wrong. If they are they could be the possible cause of some of your bad shots. So by checking your setup regularly you can eliminate these things from the possible causes of your bad shots.

I like to teach 3 different ball positions, 3 widths of stance and the same foot position for all clubs. This is what I like. If you do something different then still use this set up tip to figure out a way you can practice what you do precisely so you never do it wrong.

Paul, your tips are always so simple, so intuitive and so repeatable. Thank you for “dumbing it down” for the masses. I look forward to all your tips and plan to practice with your tips in top of mind.

Hey Paul! I’ve been watching your videos. I’m a pretty solid ball striker, but have been struggling with keeping a tight dispersion pattern. Your tip to swing @ 2/3rds of normal and slowly start increasing speed until you get to that sweet spot of speed and consistency was absolute GOLD!

The other day I had someone compliment me and say I had a very smooth swing. That’s never happened. I’m just more smooth and balanced in the sweet spot zone and can control the face at impact way more than when I’m stepping on it.

Thanks 🙏🏼

Thanks Paul for this tip. I had a real good day in the range today. I took your relax and hing/re-hinge tip and my driver started carrying 270 and my 8 iron went from 150 to 175 consistently. Just relaxing.

Paul, I want to thank you for this lesson. I watched this three times last night and played a practice round today.

I have struggled with my ball striking since I started playing golf several years ago.

This lesson is amazing! My ball striking was off the charts today. I followed this religiously today and took more divots today than I ever have.

Great lesson!

THIS is ONE of the BEST tips along with the relaxed swing in the Body Swing videos & book I bought last year----Thanks, Paul

All the ball position tips you see are discussions of WHAT the actual ball position IS, rather than HOW to achieve it... good to see a discussion of how to actually achieve it. I've sometimes pulled it and been sure I'd made a good swing, and that it was just a bit too far forward in the arc by which time the club had closed a little bit too much. I think I knew what ball position I wanted, but obviously didn't quite get it. It is so much harder on the course when there are things like trees, etc. to focus on - and above all, the tee box is not always pointing down the ideal line.

I didn't believe it until I went out on the range. I'm a believer now; it really works!

67 yr old senior here. Advanced player. I’m watching all your videos. This season I’m working on good strikes with irons. Thank You for simplifying your method. I usually go back to your relaxing wrist drill and the 9 to 3 drill for better strikes. I’ve always been a little confused with ball position. Any mention of ball position and I’m all over it.

This should be video #1 on a how to golf playlist. I’ve been golfing for 1 year now and am excited I know how you recommend this. My next challenge is optimizing my arm and distance from ball at setup for various clubs. Thanks!

My ball striking, especially with my irons has improved no end. Thank you for the videos and keep up the good work 👍🏻
