Serious tips from a former first responder for night shifts:
1. Blackout curtains are must
2. Drop room temp to <70 deg during sleep
3. Light in your eyes first thing when you wake up at noon or later
4. Get a work out in to help wake up at 12pm+
5. Wear sunglasses on your way home during sunrise. DO NOT wake back up if you can avoid it

I drove an 18 wheeler for 13 years. Studies show that the body is sleepiest at 4am. It's sad and dangerous for all night workers, especially making critical decisions. God bless you!

But this reminds me of the rape incident of an Indian intern(doctor) doing 36 hours long shift. It is brutal.

😢

These people are saving lives. No one deserves this tragedy.

Hey, Zack! This is the content I most look forward to seeing, meaning the hospital stuff, thanks for the nice video!

It's sad that as an Indian we are still aspiring to become a doctor watching creators who live far differently from our reality

that's neat that there's an app to communicate between nurses and doctors, I wonder if communication is recorded as part of medical documentation.
I use a sleeping mask to help get to sleep, seems pretty effective

It would be helpful to spread the news globally if you put up story about the resident doctor who was gang raped and murdered in her hospital conference room when she was resting after her 36hrs shift 😢

The danger of night shift is real. I have two little kittens, couple of days old, need to feat and clean them every two hours

Did 7 years night shift as a nurse and didn't have much issues with sleep. I was always a late night person playing video games or watching series so I grew accustomed to nights fairly quickly when I first started. It also helps that I'm an easy, heavy sleeper meaning I fall asleep easy and I can sleep nearly everywhere any time as long as it's a cool temperature. It also helps that my unit crew was fun, noisy, and all around similar ages so we would keep each other busy throughout the night and do some dumb sh1t lol. But, I've never worked a 24 hour shift and I'm not a doctor so brainwork is very different. My remaining few years as a night nurse, age started to take it's toll and nights were rough. Glad to be off bedside, off nights, and now enjoying a great work-life balance as an NP.

How consistent has your schedule been between taking the night and day shifts? I heard from Huberman that it's much better if you're doing nights to be consistent for at least 2 weeks, rather than swinging between the night and day shifts. If you're doing many night shifts in a row, there are some useful things that you can use to shift your circadian clock, which were covered on Huberman's episode on shift work.
