Splatoon turns 7 years old, and with Splatoon 3 releasing summer 2022, I wanted to take my annual trip back to the original game that started the series. Turns out the multiplayer ranked battles have gotten more chaotic than I remember...

I was about to launch Splatoon 1 in 2022 but thank God I saw this title that was a close one here's hoping I can play Splatoon 1 in 2023 though

I got into Splatoon a year late and unfortunately had no internet at the time, so I spent so many hours in single player 100% it and even did all the amiibo level challenges. I eventually experienced online play with a hotspot but it was not that good and would get disconnected sometimes.

Splatoon truly made summer special for me, just thinking about it is giving me nostalgia flashbacks. Sometimes I wish I could relive that experience for the first time again.

The best part about Splatoon 1 was that you hugged your splattling when you won (they should bring that back to Splatoon 3, at least for the mini splattling. That’d just be so nice)

instead of paying for nintendo online, i put myself through the pain of occasionally playing splatoon 1. and yes the wait times are like 5 times the length of a game. its fun times

This made me nostalgic for when I first bought the Wii U for Splatoon. It came packaged with it... The amount of time I spent grinding for upgrades and ranks in elementary and middle was way too much.

God damn I miss this game. 2 is great and I finally got to play online recently after never being able to touch it because my switch didn't agree with my old wifi, but 1 definitely felt more fun. The specials specifically just felt so much more impactful and seemed to have a lot more kill potential than in 2. That said I still love 2 and being able to finally play online gave me a blast of nostalgia that I felt for 1.
