Mother-in-law sounds like a hypocrite projecting. And husband needs a backbone to tell her off.

MIL needs to learn, not everyone's body works the same, and if you work a lot, you may need to eat a lot. Sometimes even someone on the smaller side can eat more then they look like they could. What amount of food works for one persons body, might not for another even if the two people are the same size. MIL needs to mind her own business and not police other peoples bodies and how much they eat.

Wait ... Your MIL ordered an entree more expensive than yours, then complained about splitting the bill? How's that work?

MiL wanted Op to order something cheap like a salad so she could 'get a better deal' as she split hthe meal. Pay your own meal with that Karen from now on. Her 'gifts' all have strings.

If your husband didn't speak up and stop his mom from attempting to shame you - leave him. It won't stop.

Just pay for your own meal rather than splitting the bill

Again, what is up with this ideology of women not eating large portions it’s crazy. I work busing tables and I’m constantly running around. I’m skinny and I eat a lot. There’s no shame that it’s your lifestyle and you need the calories to sustain that.

Makes me sad that she still feels the need to give IN NUMBERS the amount of calories she works off per day to "justify" being "allowed" to eat a big meal. Even if you worked a desk job and didn't like sports, if you're really hungry you can eat a lot of food. That is fine.

OP is absolutely not the AH. My dad used to shame me for my fast metabolism. So I stopped eating and because I was so hungry it led to me being bulimic. I'm in my mid 20s now and still have an eating disorder.
Absolutely good on OP for putting her foot down about what her body needs.

Nope, NTBA! OP needs to eat and was price conscious. She did nothing wrong. Comments like "women shouldn't eat that much" are gross. Mind your business, that's all. Mind. Your. Business!

You can eat whatever you want to eat. She has no control over that.

I cannot relate but I am very happy you stood up for yourself! I have a large appetite when I like the food but I’m not slim, I do work as an electrician so sometimes yes I do a lot and need a lot of food. I always get the comments like “wow is it bulk season” or something fatphobic like that. But my best friend growing up and I ate the same thing for days and people would still scream at her to eat a cheeseburger. Idk just don’t comment on what someone else is eating unless they are wasting it or they are making you pay.

If a person cannot handle a skinny person, who does a lot of exercise, eating a lot, then they are too fragile... it would be concerning if she had a food disorder, but she clearly doesn't... she's just a very active person... and even if she did, shaming her for it is NOT helpful!

People need to stop with the claim of "ruining" whatever the occasion was. Suck it up. You enjoyed your meal. She enjoyed hers. How did that ruin the meal?

How tf do you split equally? That makes absolutely zero sense. Everyone should pay for what they consumed

I ate like that untill i had sholder surgery and retired. I burned it off by working hard. I cant eat like that anymore. I miss it.

NTA, you are a great role model and they should be amazed you work so hard.

My MIL would have been thrilled. She loved the fact that I could eat more than any of the guys. You are not the AH people who think they can tell you what is good for you are.

It doesn't matter if you are 500 lbs. As an adult, you can order what you want and no one has the right to criticize.
