In this video I show you how easy it is to propagate Monstera deliciosa in water. All you will need is a monstera cutting and a jar of water. We will also take a look at the differences between tip and middle cuttings, because after rooting you can expect them to grow quite differently. At the end of the video I also discuss two repotting methods - using solid media and water.

Great video, very informative. So many vids out there on propagating monstera claiming roots will be branching and ready for planting in soil in just a couple of weeks, so it’s good to have a video with realistic expectations. I was propagating 3 leaves for a couple weeks but it was just the single aerial root that was growing so I ditched them because I thought I did something wrong. I’m starting over now with a couple new leaves and this time I’ll give it proper time to grow.

What did you do with the original plant? What happens to it after you take your cuttings? Anything in particular to do to keep it happy?

So just to clarify when we propagate, instead of leaving the aerial root long and in its entirety, we're supposed to cut it back? The aerial root on mine where I plan to cut it extremely long, so I should just trim it to where there is only 1-2" remaining?

So I just got some monstera cutting froms a friend, and immediately planted them in soil. they were starting to grow roots but weren't particularly developed, not he size of a fist yet. should I put it back in a jar of water? thanks!

Why is the black color?
Is it alarming sign?

I’ve had mine in water for a month or so with no sign of roots coming from the aerial root.

Good video. But I noticed that your Monstera doesn’t look very healthy. Maybe is because of the place where you live and it has nothing to do with your caring techniques. In the Caribbean they grow amazingly green, large and with thick leaves.
