From DirecTV's broadcast of Farm Aid 25: Growing Hope for America, Neil Young performs "Ohio" at Miller Park in Milwaukee on October 2, 2010. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers.

Farm Aid's performances are donated by the artists in order to raise funds and raise awareness for family farmers. They've raised their voices to help — what can you do?

Neil was not blessed with Elvis' voice, or Clapton's guitar playing, but he has the RIGHT voice and the RIGHT guitar playing for his songs. That's why none of his songs song quite right when they're covered by someone. Keep on rocking in the free world!

One of the greatest songs ever written by a master song writer .
And the tone and performance.... speechless . . .

Neil Young is one of those rare talented musicians who sounds as good with an acoustic, a full band, or playing a fucking overdriven amp with a Gretsch and just vocals. Not many musicians, past or present, could do that and sound so great.

@freakystylntime

I didn't understand that for a long time either, but I believe he means finished when he says "done;" as in the human race should have stopped killing intellectuals and peaceful protesters (and each other in general) long ago.

Freaky is right. There is an ambiguity and it is a liability. The line reads "done [not gone] long ago", so ogidlow's defence does not work. 13hPoundcake might be right to retort that Neil sings "CUTTING, " not "gunning, " but this defence does not cut it, since Freaky's objection is equally valid with either reading. blindriv offers a good but ingenious defence, but I for one can hear no change of dramatic speaker with "Should've". A great song, but flawed by this one unintended ambiguity.

@ChicagoShirl The only thing about Neil Young that sucks is that his mortal body cannot last forever.

every time he plays the main riff in that tone I get shivers starting from my neck, down through my arms and legs

Neil Young's guitar tone sounds like the end of the world.

This guy has more presence at one performance than most have in their entire careers.

David Crosby said Neil wrote this song in about 20 minutes after hearing about Kent State massacre...a true political artist.  Neil is a modern-day Jonathan Swift, who just happens to kick ASS on the guitar.
Thank God for Neil Youngs...

That's why there's only one Neil.  To pair the rawness of the story, vocal and solitary, brutal guitar is rock and roll perfection.  Illuminati?  HAH!  You're a fool who speaks against something of which you're ignorant, Marissa.  Neil follows nothing but the muse.  He could have easily sold out at any point in his career, but time and again he makes choices that value creative integrity over economic advantage.  His angst is real.
