I consider myself an expert on the Marmot Tungsten 1p UL. Been using it for 4+ years. Been thru every condition possible. Love it! I also have the ZPacks Plex Solo. The Marmot is my go to tent for many reasons, ie, relatively light weight, spacious for a 1p, small footprint, can be set up fly first if you have the accompanying footprint, bomb proof if you guyline it out, spacious vestibule, good airflow with the top air vent opened (minimal/no condensation), not bulky, doesn’t sag when wet, affordable, totally free standing, easy to setup even in the wind, warmer than a single wall, can be used without a fly for ultimate star gazing, etc… The only category the Plex Solo wins IMO is weight. It’s less than 1lb. Hard to beat that! For the type of hardcore backpacking I do and for the level of comfort and security I need, the Marmot is just more practical. If I was a thru hiker looking for the ultimate ultralight setup, then the Plex Solo would get my vote. Great review! I always say gear is very personal. Good luck finding what works for you!

The Big Agnes's copper spur can be pitched fly first. I've done it a few times in the rain on trail. Works well.

Totally agree on the Luna Solo choice Justin, it's kind of like sleeping with all the benefits of a Tarp with the advantage of bug protection and it's really easy to control condensation. Dries super quickly too 👌

I recently got a Marmot Tungsten 1p. I have been using a Tungsten EOS 1p for many years and have been impressed with it's quality and the fact I've been in some pretty crazy rain and wind and this tent has always performed. I got the Tungsten because the EOS is a bit small. I think you can setup the fly first before the inner tent if you use a footprint.

I have that pack. Took it on a 7day volcanic island trip with 80lbs of gear. Worst decision of my life!
The pack can handle it, but constantly going up and down ravines, my body won't do that again!
Thanks for all the gear reviews and tips. Looking forward to family hiking vids!

This is probably one of the best UL tent comparison videos I've ever watched. Thank you so much!

Thank you for using grams as unit of measure. Much easier for us Europeans.

Hey Justin, now would be a good time to post a video asking your followers for their help with the Jasper wildfire situation. You have a lot of reach,
you can make a difference and it would help tremendously. Red Cross Canada is now set up to receive donations on their website. Make your voice heard! 🙏🏼

Happy to see the Zpacks Plex Solo Lite as the top UL shelter at 11.7 ounces it's extremely light. I made two upgrades to this shelter, first being the mesh storage pocket and the magnetic door fasteners instead of the toggles . Awesome video Justin! (still waiting for the info on that lid)! 🤣

OEX Phoxx 1+ Ultralite, got it recently, fantastic, 900g, will pack into a 2L compression sack without the need to fold it in any way + tent poles in a side pocket of your backpack or strapped to the top tupe on a bicycle, I'm in love with it

To this day the Lunar Solo is my go to tent on almost every trip I do.

I personally think the Hilleberg Soulo BL is the best solo tent ever made. But it's heavy!

I would pick the dragonfly as the best all around tent (or the copper spur).

But if it's all about weight. that changes things.. of course...

The Six Moons LunarSolo fits me well. Being 6' 3", I need the additional length that the Lunar provides. And my pack easily fits alongside me in the tent.

Would you consider a hammock tent? or just a hammock with a cover? What's your idea on that? I am looking for my tent and I cant carry to much weight - I'm only going to do 1-2 night trips. I'm up in the northeast.

Always fun to watch your videos! I was this close to buying the Plex Solo or the Altaplex. I'm 6, 1" and toss/turn a lot during the night, so wasn't sure the Plex would keep me from bumping the walls and getting condensation all over my footbox. I've had an Xmid Pro 2 I love since release, but with a rectangular footprint of 80"x100", it's been tough to pitch in smaller tent sites on a number of occasions. Getting something with a smaller footprint while still taking into account comfort/usability and being on the UL side of things became my priorities. I ended up settling on the Zpacks Offset Solo. A smidge lighter than my X-mid Pro 2, takes up slightly less space to pitch than even the Altaplex (both dimensionally, but also with those longer guylines), and it ought to be extremely roomy with many of the handy convenience features you might find lacking in lighter tents. Figured I'd put that out there for anyone enjoying reading the comments:). I'm curious about your thoughts on the Offset Solo as well. Take care and thanks again for all of the great videos!

I recently picked up a lunar solo second hand. I can't wait to try it out. Cost me less than a new lanshan.

Great video, I know you love your Durston gear. I’m 196cm/6ft 5in and too tall for any of these tents and recommend the Lightheart Gear SoLong 6.

The quality of Samaya products is outstanding and worth the price.

Saw you briefly mentioned them. Would love to see you review some more Naturehike tents or more affordable in general. I did see the Mongar recommendation a while ago which was great 👍 Cloud Up 2 has been a tried and true for me
