Why are they collecting children's data in the first place. Companies really think they are entitled to our information and it doesn't even stop at children. Thankfully they lost the court case about this. Apparently they never even asked users for permission to collect data including images and audio in the video. This is very creepy and concerning.

I'm pretty sure he only hacked it to show the company and the world how insecure these things are.
No one should have access to any of a child's data.
He tried to do something good and accidentally found more than he ever expected

Passwords are normally stored as hashes and not "encrypted". Hashes are technically just 1 way encryption, meaning they can not be decrypted. However, md5 is weak compared to modern day hashing algorithms.

Great videos, saw people commenting that Lex Fridman should have you on his show on his podcast where he interviewed an FBI agent

There's more info about this out now, but still a great episode. I really dislike the news segment at the start though. Like, the hacker literally whistleblowed on Vtech for having really vulnerable security.... But they just ignore any context to the case to get a few jabs in, rather than pointing that towards the 2 billion dollar corporation who stored that info and photos and left it vulnerable.

Thought this was going to be about someone hacking Honda engines.

20:28 "he dismissed the case because the plaintiffs could not show how they were harmed"
So then it follows that attempted murder should not be a crime, as long as when you attempt the murder and fail, you don't cause harm during your attempt.

Great video. A few things though, Britain doesn't have jails. Britain has police cells for when people are first arrested and just prison for people awaiting trial on remand or who have been convicted. As for the caution, he will have been released on bail (which doesn't have a cost, like USA) upon his arrest and interview and he would have been given the caution at that time or after the police had finished their investigation. He wouldn't have been held for a year and then been given a caution.

Aauh yuh, eleven, 500 dude, stellar podcast. On my first three uploads, , "mobman was L.M.A.O. funny, in that episode I thought is it possible for two different people to come up with the sub7 virus, simultaneously from two different geo location? I think it's a longshot but anything is possible!

Just to point out Vtech is a hong-Kong based chilren-tablet manufacturer, V-tac is a Bulgarian company selling Smartbulbs, cameras, LEDs etc made by multiple manufacturers. They are not a same company.
