Who is Natalia Barnett? This astonishing odyssey of deceit, colorful characters, twisted family dynamics and unbelievable testimonies will premiere across three consecutive nights on ID beginning Monday, May 29, airing nightly from 9-11pm ET/PT.

Initially assumed to be a 6-year-old Ukrainian orphan with a rare bone growth disorder, Natalia was adopted by Kristine and Michael Barnett in 2010. However, the happy family dynamic soured when allegations against Natalia were brought by the Barnetts who alleged Natalia was an adult masquerading as a child with intent to harm their family. In 2013, Natalia was discovered living on her own which ignited an investigation that led to Michael and Kristine's arrest and a firestorm of questions.

That man is such a freaking drama QUEEN! Even trying to direct one of his scenes. 😂
I can't believe a word he says!

The more I watch this series, the more I think the adoptive parents are insane. I agree that this child has issues, both physical and mental, but I believe the adoptive parents made WAY more out of her actions, in a negative way, than necessary. I watch Michael telling his stories and he is over the top, overly dramatic and the poorest excuse for a man and father. He acts like a victim and yet, he was the 2nd adult in the house who could have done the right thing and helped Natalia. This was hard to watch because Natalia deserved better.

The dad's behaviour proves to me that he is totally guilty. This is his 15 minutes of fame, but if he thinks he rehabilitated his reputation, he is mistaken.

It's sad that people still think she was an adult during that time. There is so much evidence that she was a child. Her mom confirmed, her doctor confirmed, she had baby teeth. It's sad that her neighbors said she was creepy when obviously she was a child just wanting someone to be her family and someone to be kind to her.

"It's the stuff of a horror movie." It was literally a horror movie.

Other people have spoken about the Barnetts but I want to focus on Natalia. I can relate to her very well, maybe too well. I was orphaned when I was born and know nothing about my parents or any blood relatives. Like her, I also wasn't wanted by my adoptive parents, a couple who'd obtained 2 other orphans before me. I pretty much went from one orphanage into another.
Very few people are capable of understanding what being an orphan is like. You feel lost, confused and have difficulty bonding and trusting the intentions of others. What Natalia did was the same as I and many other orphans do, she placed a lot of trust in her adoptive parents. How could she not?? Who else could she go to for any advice or guidance...her parents???
She's never bonded with anyone, at least up to the info we currently have before we hear her side later on. She tried bonding with them and it didn't happen. She seemed to explore with men/boys because it was another attempt to bond. Yes, it may not have been an emotional one but a lot of people mistake sex(ual conduct) for true intimacy. It doesn't make her a bad person, it makes her a person who was (and is?) alone in the world with no family at all. At the least, no involvement with her parents or other blood relatives.
The show vilified her in the beginning, for nothing. There's no doubt at all Michael contacted them so he could get lots of attention, being the dramatic, phony, attention-whore he is. The show hardly ever put her in a positive light, further exacerbating the issues I spoke of earlier. I feel so sorry for her, especially since this entire thing never had to happen.
I really hope that when we hear her side, ID will be mature and responsible enough to present it in an equal, fair manner which at the least portrays her as the victim, and sole victim, of this entire fiasco.
Oh and btw, why wasn't anything pursued when Michael and his son admitted she was pushed down the stairs? They got it on tape! So what *other* abuse had she faced?? I can't even imagine what the extent of it was.

I think it's insane how this documentary keeps me flip flopping on who to hate here.

After watching all 6 eps, I'm convinced that for whatever reason, they didn't want Natalia anymore! They saw that movie Orphan (which came out around 2009-2010) and said hmmmm! They repeatedly disregarded her disability and forced her to stand at walls all day, stick her in 2nd floor apartments, forced her to walk extremely long distances to feed some damn cows, then get upset cause the girl feet hurt and turn it around to say she tried to throw you to a fence, smh! Before I watched one episode I thought Natalia was evil but it's clear it was the parents! It's just sad that they got away with it! Oh and I believe what that little guy said at the end!!!!

The video of the dad harassing and almost verbally attacking Natalia in her apartment while she was looking so genuinely confused was telling. It's normal for kids to tell little lies like she did in the video about the donuts, especially with a dad acting like he was interrogating her like that. And sexual language or acting out and other behavioral issues are sadly very very common among kids adopted.... the rest of what she used to tell people so nonchalantly about violent things she supposedly did sounds more to me like she had been groomed into saying those things. I genuinely think Natalia is a victim here, the adoption agency probably lied a little about her age to get her adopted which is also common (but nowhere near the age descrepency the Barnetts claimed) and she ended up in the hands of these horrible people.

It was a house of horrors! Honestly, the abuse that she went through in her life along side her crippling disability is just terrifying. I feel so bad for her! You can see the fear in her eyes when Kristine was recording her. Heart breaking!

After watching the documentary, anyone that can’t see how abused this child was is blind. That ‘father’ is crazy to put it nicely. It makes me ill to see her being forced to answer questions while being taped. It’s obviously she’s been told what to say. They are abusive beyond belief.

I hope the documentary exposes that the Barnetts were being investigated for abse/neglect *before* the age change & after

When they got to the part where the neighbors started sharing how crazy she was, I began to think Natalia was a toxic sociopath but by the end I was thinking "no wonder she acted like that, she was 9 years old!"

After watching the whole series my heart is broken 💔 there is NO justice in this world for the most vulnerable of us. Shame on Kristine AND MICHAEL!!! They are disgusting 🐖. I hope they will never be able to show their faces in public again!

I’m watching the third episode and I’ve come to the conclusion they’re all nuts. The story gets more crazy as the show goes on.

I’m so confused watching the first episode as to why, if all of these incidents with knives happened and threats of killing them, why did they continue to let her stay in their home? If what the father said that she was adopted and returned by so called “30 families”, then why didn’t they do the same?!?

Why is it hard to figure out her age? Dental exams should solve this easily as well as DNA and other growth factors. Real doctors can settle this EASILY.
