Healthcare companies have no right to suggest a treatment plan to a patient. This should be between a doctor and patient. They are playing God with peoples lives. UHC is the worst and was happy when my company stopped offering it to employees.

First and foremost, Luigi is a warning. History has shown it hundreds of times: When the oligarchy and those in power push the population too much, a revolution occurs.

I had an emergency and my baby was delivered a few weeks earlier. The only pediatrician in the hospital at that time happened to be an out of network doctor. UHC refused to pay. I struggled with them for whole 6 months with calls, reviews, and appeals. Frustrated, I sent complaints to the state attorney, UHC immediately called me and said they made a mistake. They refunded me. Later I switched insurance and has never gone back to them. Imagine someone who is sick and not having this energy to go through all this trouble with them!

I don't even live in the states, but thank you for standing up for the people. We all need a voice to speak on our behalf

People say violence is not the answer but most changes in History have been achieved by it

I fully support Luigi!
I'm dealing with breast cancer, everything is payed for. From the cancer treatments to the breast correction opperation we gonna need. I get free taxie rides from home to the hospital, help in the house with cleaning and coocking. My kids get psycological theraphie dealing with the trauma this could give them. For us, we are fighting cancer and not the whole system! I want this for every person on earth! I pay 157 euro a month in incurance and my tax a year is 21% of my total income.

If my country can do this for their people? America can do it aswell!!!

Not condoning murder but this young man has given a voice to all these people who”ve had to stay silent in their suffering due to denials that are life saving. It’s sad this had to happen in order for this issue to get the attention it needs.

I love how you said "violence is ALMOST never the answer." As someone living under a dictatorship, 25 years of peaceful protests have gotten us nowhere. So I agree, it is ALMOST never the answer, but sometimes it's precisely what it takes to remind the rich and powerful that there is a limit to the suffering we can withstand. They want us tamed. We might be civilized, but within us exists the capacity to defend ourselves. Silly to beat up a dog and then call it savage when it bites.

Respect to you for speaking so honestly about this matter.

Go off, Doc. I'm a pharmacist, agree with everything you said. I've been saying forever that American health insurance companies are evil.

You rarely take sides like this and it shows this issue is important. Thanks for using your platform like this, it will push the dialogue along. Hopefully other physicians will follow suit. There is a huge community of youtube Dr's with a lot of reach, they should use it. This took some courage to do!

I work for a Cancer Center as an Insurance Collector. The most common denials we receive for radiation and chemotherapy are”Not Medically Necessary, Experimental” Prior Auth with hurdles, peer to peer delays, appeal nightmares to end up timely. UHC is the worst! Don’t get me started on “brown/white bagging” While I am sorry for the loss of a human life, this needs to serve as a wake up call to these insurance companies. Something has to change!

Medical Billing Supervisor here and I can’t tell you how true this is about UHC! I have seen horrific things from them.

Mangione's actions ignited a very important conversation and that was the point, as he has made clear. So he if he isn't a hero, he is a significant historical figure.

Bravo, Dr. Youn! We need more healthcare professionals to speak openly and honestly about their experiences with these exploitative insurance companies. While this situation is truly appalling, I hope it will inspire meaningful change. Let this serve as a catalyst for a revolution in how insurers operate—so they can no longer deny care and jeopardize our well-being every day.

Luigi killed one person. The CEO's company killed tens of thousands.

UHC is disgusting. I was denied an MRI requested by a Neurologist who suspected that my strange, chronic pressure headaches are being caused by part my brain being pressed up against my skull/spinal canal. We never found out what was wrong because I couldn't (and still can't) afford the deductibles and out-of-pocket costs. This country should be ashamed of how it treats the sick, non-wealthy, and those who aren't privileged enough to afford higher education. I agree with another poster who said Luigi was a warning. The "other half" has been holding US accountable for years; perhaps it's their turn.

The only time in my life I was ever denied care in my 67 years, was by United health care. It’s been going on for many years. I hope this horrible tragedy serves as a wake up call for all of these insurance companies, CEOs, and shareholders, who profit off of that needed care that is denied for the people that are paying the premiums!
