Pokémon: Is Steel the Best Type?

Is Steel the best Pokemon type? There was only a modest handful with it when Gold and Silver dropped, including the retroactively added Magnemite line, but straight from its debut it was put to great effect enhancing what were previously standalone specimens and establishing itself as the pick for physical defense. Steel's not the best type offensively, but it's still got some good uses against fairy and poison types! Not to mention I think it's a type with some really consistently good designs too, like Aggron and Scizor! :)

Ground / fighting are the best offensive types. Both have 5 super effective matchups. Fairy is a close second being strong against 3 major types and only being weak to two lower tier types. Steel is the best defensive typing but only when paired with a good second typing since it’s weak to 3 of the most common types all of which have really strong sweepers

I think the best type is actually water because there's so many of them and that type can do anything from being a good physical attacker or special attacker to a good support or tank

I feel that fairy might be better since while poison and steel types are big damagers towards it, they’re usually more late game while fairy types can come from the easiest evolutions. (Ex: Wigglytuff) Especially with the big strong steel types. Metagross from what I know is usually not available to be found wild and can only be found as a beldum, also. Fairy has a fairly good amount of type advantages across the charts even making dragons such as garchomp and salamence say hello to the grim reaper.

The fence is really good but you also gotta take into account that fire type Pokémon can defeat them with relative ease in fire type Pokémon nowadays are pretty common

Steel’s by far my favorite type in the game, I think they have some of the best designs and far and away the best defenses. Perhaps not the best offensively, but a lot of thr best steel types have secondary typings that really let them strut their stuff. Bisharp on my competitive team really only focuses on its Dark type STAB, sucker punch and knock off boosted with black glasses and uses iron head as a sort of contingency plan (plus swords dance because I’d be stupid if I didn’t run swords dance on a Bisharp) and it kicks some major ass.

Ghost type, Immune to Fighting and normal type. Weak against fairy and psychic type but you rarely encounter those.

As good defensively at it is, its only real offensive prowess is to be a fairy killer, as the much stronger offensively fighting type can handle rocks and ice
But this is a type with 10 resistances(1 immunity) and unlike the fire type isn't weak to stealth rock, making it easily the best defensive type in the game, its only problem in the defense area is that its weak to some of the strongest offensive types in the game
