I never realized how this song could fit a Disney villain, including Magnifico. If there was a remake of the movie, including the songs, Magnifico's song should be a cover of this song, with new lyrics, Amaya also sings with him, and the tone should be more sinister and slightly less upbeat.

A great song that fits with the images on screen. It confirms why the best Disney villains are iconic. They have stage presence, know how to strut their stuff and look awesome and intimidating while wielding power. Just think about Eric and Ariel frantically trying to swim away from the giant Ursula, Aladdin going up against Snake Jafar, or Gaston rallying a mob to follow him to the Beast's castle. Worthy heroes need worthy dragons to slay.

The more of the fanmade stuff I check out the more I realize that Disney didn’t mess up a potentially great villain, they somehow messed up two potential great villains. 3-4 villains if you count his wife.

Evil Magnifico: A powerhungry, manipulative, self centered monster who rules the people with an iron fist but because he provides the most basic necessities he basically gaslights the entire kingdom into submission.

Sympathetic Magnifico: A kind thoughtful man who does everything in his power to keep his people safe and happy but can be a bit self centered with a “I know what’s best for you, ” mentality. Despite the people prospering they still just want more and more not realizing the potential danger that comes with their desires and when the people revolt lead by Asha he becomes a villain simply because he felt the need to defend himself from the ungrateful mob of people trying to take his throne because they simply want more than they have.

There are also many debates that the Queen should have been portrayed differently, either as Magnifico’s partner in crime or as a separate villain who uses the mob to take the throne for herself.

Ultimately Disney somehow made the second Magnifico but portrayed him as if he was the first one and the end result was a confusing mess. They had two good potential ideas but refused to commit to either of them.

This video made me realize what we've really lost from Disney playing it safe for all these years. Of course Wish had potential, this was just gorgeous. But all that time and money Disney dropped into the live action remakes for example? Imagine a universe where all that effort went into making new classics.
