'Woke' Explained in our Mother Tongues To Seniors | Code Switch EP 6

Society has a long history on racism and injustices that have long been swept under the rug. How did 'Woke' come about and what does it really mean to be 'Woke' today? In this week’s episode of Code Switch, we challenged young Singaporeans to briefly explain the concept to seniors in their mother tongues!

About Code Switch: Young Singaporeans seem to be losing touch with their mother tongue. So we're challenging them to explain a trendy topic to seniors under 5 minutes. The catch is, they can only speak in their mother tongue. For every English word spoken, $2 will be deducted from the prize money of $50.

I'm not even Singaporean but what an excellent concept! and what a beautiful way to connect and make our seniors aware of the slangs and terms we use to communicate these days. This builds bridges and gives rise to better societal understanding.
I'm definitely recommending this series to my friends!

Alot of indians also mix english words with their tamil. I think its ok to let her use those filler words its not a big issue lol

I really love this concept of an open communication between 2 generations at the same time polishing our mother tongue. We look at European nations, they are very fluent in 3 languages. And yet we failed even with just 2.. Yes in Europe it is part of their school curriculum to learn their national language, English and one other major EU language.

I don't think hafidz got the right idea of what "woke" it. He kept Insisting to mama leha that people think woke is a bad thing. I don't think that's what the producer wanted to present? Oh yah, and he said at least 4 times of "okay" which was not counted.
