Glenn is WRONG about the Spider V... in a way...

My buddy Glenn has this never ending campaign against a very inexpensive practice amp with tons of features... I wanted to take a look at it and see how shitty it really is. Here is what I found out...

Sounds good to me. It's just sad to whine about the Line 6. It's actually a very versatile amp and very affordable.

One thing I've learned through the years is to NEVER buy a cheap instrument. It is the fastest de-motivational thing for a newbie or someone who wants to start learning an instrument. Cheap stuff usually have more problems than solutions and the player gets bored and frustrated at the same time through constant struggles and tweaking.

I got my Spider V 30 MkII last week, and was surprised how well it plays and how easy the APP is to use IF you wish to use it, which isn't a must. The screen on the amp work really well. For the price it's way good of an amp! Now it's my main practice amp. Also, it's very loud! :)

I've got the Spider 5 2x10. Loud af, works with a drummer! If you tame the sizzle (and you can) and don't use the gate or use an out-board gate you can create tones that no one will complain about if they don't know what amp you're using.

Glenn is a single minded metalhead and everyone is stupid but him and that's his routine. It's boring as hell and rarely can I sit and watch an entire video of anything he does. He seems more limited than not in his recording abilities too. I mean, all he can do is metal and it's not even really good metal. So when I saw a studio owning and recording guy take a Line 6 beginner's practice amp and bash the thing it doesn't speak very highly of the person's IQ level in the recording field. He may be a comic genius, but more often than not he comes off as a putz.

My old Spider II 30 with a 12 inch speaker still sounds so much better. 😄 When it is set to clean at least.
Also for that money, the Boss Katana 50 directly comes to my mind. Henning, review that! 😄

the recording example at the beginning of the video: i have heard worse results from super expensive tube amps before. I'm not saying its the best amp either but its not total garbage. It's a fine practice amp for practicing.

I vaguely remember Glen saying something to the effect of "... If that is all you've got, use what you've got." I dont think Ill ever own a spider, but if it's what you have and your able to smile while you play, your there.

Glenn comes from the studio engineer perspective. Recording. For that, Glenn is right. BUT. for a bedroom practice amp that you won't gig or record with, a Line 6 spider V is just fine.
