Saved by the bed bugs. Glad that pest control company took care of things and didn't turn a blind eye.

Such things are happening all over the USA. This could be eliminated if companies spent resources for background checks on potential employees instead of outsourcing it to a contractor .

As an Indian, I'd say this could just be the surface. There's a massive operation underneath.
Find that "consultancy" that hired them, jammed them all up in one place & giving them work. (electronics, computers found means Employment scam for tech skilled victims)
Go through financial & payroll records of that consultancy. Find how many of those victims documents were forged/faked to get here.
Find who sweetened their own pockets, to give that consultancy the projects.
You'll find the source of corruption.. it could very well end up being one of your congressmen/woman.
The victims are usually folks with dreams to fight their financial battles back home, and get lured here promising jobs & they probably don't understand how bad this gets until they get here.
These consultancies even withhold 3-6 months of their pay, so that they keep working in those conditions without leaving.
Catching individuals will not help. Nail the consultancies.

Glad that the pest control employee spoke up and called police. Too many people just ignore major signs that something horrible is going on.

This practice, commonly known as bodyshopping, has been prevalent for over three decades. Anyone in the IT industry from India is familiar with it, and there are millions of bodyshopping firms operating at various capacities across the US. These firms often describe themselves as consulting companies, placement agencies, resourcing companies, staffing companies, and so on. They profit by taking 20 to 30% of their consultant's salary from every paycheck for as long as the consultant works for them. There is often no respect, verbal abuse, delayed salary payments, limited or no benefits, unpaid overtime, no paid vacation, sub-standard treatment, and the list goes on. These bodyshoppers often require their consultants to apply for green cards through the company, effectively locking them in for 10 to 15 years, during which the company makes substantial profits. Sad state of affairs!

Poor hygiene brought the whole operation down.

I’m sure companies are hiring them. There was a similar case out of St Louis where a man was held against his will in a basement working for free and basically a slave. They would beat him to force him to work. The companies who are hiring these individuals should be held accountable.

Government needs to investigate who gave them these opportunities, even apparent management should be investigated, enough is enough

This is the reason USCIS has a tight regulation for visas to Indian nationals, and it's a disadvantage to some of us who are genuine, legal skilled immigrants.
