Why Does My Car Buzz After I Shut It Off?

Kim asked why a MK7 GTI would make buzzing or clicking noises right after shutting it off. The answer is pretty simple, and kind of cool I think. This is common on most newer VW and Audi cars. Maybe other brands too.

I have been looking far and wide for this answer. Just picked up a 2018 A3 2.0t and when i shut the car off it's a loud hum/buzz noise. I thought I was going crazy and wanted to make sure my car was okay! This makes me feel a whole lot better. Thank you man!!!

I like that design; I don't know anyone aside from myself that waits for the tests to run before cranking up the engine. I wonder if any manufacturers run the radiator fan for a few seconds to cover up the less familiar sounds of the self-check.

previous owner of a 2010 ibiza cupra 180 dsg. now a proud owner of a leon cupra 290 dsg 2017. i am always letting my key when turn finish the diagnostics and i turn on the ignition only when i see the last light which is the airbag.. going off. a rule that as you said is not written but is better to follow.!

My previous 2015 GTI and current 2017 GTI Sport make all kinds of noises after a drive. I wondered what was going on, thanks Charles for the explanation. The cars seem like they are possessed, especially when parked in a garage.

Thanks for this, just bought a '17 GTI about a month ago and noticed it does all of that. Although I figured it was normal. I will note it will also do it if you open any door, you will hear the series of checks, along with the typical fuel pump priming. Another cool thing is the cooling (see what I did there...) fan will run a little bit after turning off the car.

I have a 2015 TSI Golf, the prolonged buzzing noise after you shut off the engine is the coolant pump. It'll run for a couple of minutes. My car has the auto AC, when you put the car in ACC mode (car on, engine off) and turn the climate control on, it'll run the coolant pump and keep you warm.

I once cycled the car on & off for close to an hour in 40deg weather. The dog & I stayed comfy while the wife shopped.

I have a GOLF MK5 1.9 TDI BXE 2008, and it does exactly the same thing :D turning off the engine and I hear a bzzzz sound for 2 seconds, thanks for the video!

I had a 2009 Pontiac G8 that, when turned off, made a high pitched whining sound (sort of like an old NTSC CRT TV) for maybe a minute or so. Bought that car new and it always did it and never caused any problem other than that of annoyance. I don't know if the reason was the same, but can confirm that some non-VW cars do make noise after they're turned off as well.

Glad this video came out when it did, I just noticed the other day my Mk7 R making some weird beeping from under the hood after shutoff and went on for a good 5 minutes. I just figured it was normal and it was calibrating stuff but it's good to know for sure now

I asked one of the service advisers at my dealership and she had no idea what I was talking about. She said perhaps it was one of the cooling fans?

My 2019 VW Atlas makes noise from the gas tank after I turn it off. It's more like a buzzing sound and it stays on for like 2-3 minutes and when the noise is coming to an end it makes squeeky noise. Is that normal?
