I love that they can divert CO2 from other places into their batteries. I like that the components are not rare earth materials. I like that it appears entirely safe. It appears pretty large, but not overwhelmingly so. It should be very good. [ Phase-change materials seem to be a fairly new and very interesting technology area for a lot of purposes. I've also seen it used in home construction. ] It isn't small enough for cars. We still need to conquer that particular issue. Price? it's probably very affordable too. No search for oil & gas or coal, not major transportation costs, no huge salaries for highly trained people after the installation. It's a great pairing for the Green energy sources.

Read about this a year ago and asked myself why this has not been adaped widely. They say they can build one under one year!!! Wont be viable within cities, but out in the open for solar farms.... a great idea and it works based on of the shelve products, now further Research required. Would be great if they would tear down the coal plant in Hawai (the last one) and build a CO2 dome battery there with a Tesla Megapack buffer battery, that way all connections needed to the grid are allready Then make a before and after photo... put it on twitter asking ".... people say it cant be done, but it can"

It's most important for the Ambient Temperature functionality, .. Carbon Dioxide [CO2] is surprising in this application. In most other instances a huge amount of energy is needed to prepare the medium, and store, and this reduces that cost dramatically. Every major city should have one, ..

I would not call it a "battery". A hydro system is not a battery. It sores energy, but not everything that stores energy is a battery. I've heard of systems that store energy by elevating big, heavy slabs of concrete.

By definition, a battery consists of a set of cells. A cell is a device that converts chemical energy to electrical energy. The thing in an ICE car running the lights and starter motor is a battery. It consists of 6 2.3V lead acid cells. The thing that stores petrol in an ICE vehicle is a petrol tank, not a battery. Both are energy storage devices but only one is a battery.

Strategically, it's good to have a few of these since they are not depending on sensitive import.
This is very elegant, almost like art. But I only hope they were just a little bit honest about those efficiencies.
No engineer but I think a much smaller version of this could still be interesting to recuperate waste energy. The CO2 would then not be compressed locally and waste energy would be used to expand it. Perhaps the whole system could be made in one piece polymer. It's possible though that much waste energy is not hot enough for fast expansion.

This would work great on Mars, you wouldn't need dome just use ambient atmosphere, a starship could be used as the compressed Co2 storage tank, waste heat of compressor could help heat living spaces.
Note, Prototype starship fuel tanks where tested to around 8 bar, but CO2 requires around 45 bar to be compressed to liquid at earth ambient temperatures, less at Mars temperatures but still would require stronger storage tanks.

Technically, it's a pumped storage system, but using CO₂ instead of water. Nice design. What efficiency does it achieve in daily use, rather than their claimed maximum figure?

Italian concept and pilot plant. Storage costs look really competitive! Does Australia have inter connectors between states to even out demand and supply?? Northern States could produce huge Solar outputs!
