This is how movie trailers should be like...

Featuring music from the movie, and just scenes from the movie.

I actually really liked the fact that this film was less ambitious than most Ghibi pieces. I always find myself underwhelmed by the lack of closure in Ghibli stories, especially given their incredible world-building. But for once, the film was so quaint that I felt at peace with the lack of resolution.

And the soundtrack is ace!

I found myself being more focused on the friendship of Taku and Yutaka than their romantic situation with Muto. Friendship will always be the most special bond. This movie really speaks it.

To anyone who still hasn't watched Ocean Waves, y'all missing out. From the characters to the music to the outfits to the scenery — it's just *perfect.* Unlike most Ghibli movies this is the closest to reality and it has a great ending, leaves you thinking and at the same time, gives you the answer you're looking for. I feel upset whenever this movie and When Marnie Was There is never mentioned as one of the best Ghibli movies because those two are my absolute favorites. Y'all won't regret watching Ocean Waves. Taku Morisaki is definitely husband material, just sayin'.

i love trailers without any speech, especially without those lame american commentators, with them it's always like you're listening to a board of gray old men trying to figure out what kids like these days

I FINALLY got to watch this film! After a year or so of searching, I found a copy with English subtitles. It was the last Studio Ghibli film I needed to see in order to have seen them all!

I just love how this film is so realistic in terms of it’s storyline and characters, not to mention how beautiful and captivating the sceneries are, it’s just so aesthestic and nostalgic. The outfits that they wear are so great, detailed, and vividly amazing, which is still a trend nowadays. It’s truly that never get out of style, definitely one of the best Ghibli movies has ever created. This movie indeed defines the life of a youth, from being a student, making friends, enjoyment, fall in love to someone, finding happiness, facing issues, problems, struggles, thinking and deciding the career near the future.

The music here is just like the film itself, it evokes all the feelings that you once had and brings them to life again. Whether they were the good ones, bad ones, the worse ones, the better ones, or even the worst ones. Not necessarily sad or happy with these feelings, but somehow, you started to “appreciate” all the long-gone memories you once had; nostalgia might be the best word for summing up this film.
I consider it to be one of the most underrated and underappreciated films of all time. It’s a hidden Masterpiece.

My dad has seen a lot of the Ghibli movies but this is his favorite. He was almost 20 in 1993 and he said the music takes him right back to his teen days. That’s a magic few movies have come to dominate.

This film shows us that sometimes it is not the wrong person, but the wrong moment, the one that does not allow forging a relationship, not necessarily because of the circumstances, but because of the immaturity of the individuals. It is not a pink and romantic story, therefore, when seeing the final scene, the possibility that they end up falling in love may be illogical, however, the small moments were present. Rikako was strong and independent in the eyes of others, but on the trip to Tokyo or even when she lost her money, Taku saw the weak and vulnerable side of her. On the other hand, Taku was the only person who comforted and helped her on several occasions. At the end of the movie we see it, she says that "at that time, her world was small", that is, she was selfish, proud and alienated people, but still wants to see "the boy who likes to sleep in bathtubs" You have thought about what happened and seeing it with a mature mind, you realize that you actually like it. Upon hearing that phrase, he begins to collect everything that has happened between them and imagines her saying it, finally he sees her more beautiful than ever and realizes that he is crazy about that girl so real, imperfect, unpredictable and who, apparently, has expanded your little world. After all, maybe now is the right time. ALSO at the end Taku emphasizes that he was in love with her but he did not realize, or did not realize ... because of the attitudes of the girl so immature and harsh and even selfish, as well as respect for his friend who was in love with her, but thanks to the small situations that she and taku went through, in the end a somewhat small feeling arose that until they both matured, it is understood that it can be developed, besides that taku was the only one who faced her and sometimes I made it clear that I was doing things wrong ... things that I think she ultimately served and appreciated, and seeing taku's interest in her in accompanying her and etc ... it was clear that she was developing feelings towards her CLEARLY NO IT IS A LOVE STORY, IT IS A MATURE STORY ... OF VISUALIZING THE PROBLEMS THAT CAN BE REACHED WHEN EVERYTHING COMES DOWN AND IT IS LIKE A DOMINO

That's what I like about Ghibli studios

This movie is so relaxing and comforting
And those nostalgic pre 2000 japan vibes
It's almost like traveling back in time
And music is great too

Definately on my top 5 anime movies

Wonder how simple the storyline is yet it never fails to amaze me, complimented by beautiful animations and music.
