Inkscape User Reacts To Affinity Designer

In this video I'll be giving Affinity Designer a look and letting you know what my first impressions are.

Affinity Designer is a vector graphics editor similar to Inkscape and Illustrator, and it's developed by a company known as Serif. Unlike Adobe's subscription-based pricing model, Affinity Designer is just a one-time purchase and you're done. You get to own the software as opposed to being forced to rent it like you are with Illustrator.

I had been using Adobe professionally for 25 years. After two months of learning Affinity and using it on client work I just cancelled my Adobe subscription and completely migrated to Affinity Designer, Photo and Publisher for all of my design and layout work. Incredible creative programs.

Yes, Affinity Designer tutorials! Shape Builder is on their feature roadmap, but no word on when. If you have the Affinity Suite, what is nice is being able to jump back and forth between the programs with the same image. You can switch to Photo and it will even keep the layers. Be sure to check out the pixel persona, the icon with the squares under file. When you're in that persona, it works like a raster image. You can paint, just like Photoshop, GIMP, Krita. Whatever you do on that pixel layer can be selected just like a vector, moved, resized, etc, when you switch back to Designer persona.

Thanks Nick for this video. I've been using Affinity Designer for about 3 years now. I started design with Ink scape from watching your videos and I really look forward to seeing you make affinity designer tutorials.

Just got this video recommended on the front page. Been working on and off with Affinity products for around 4 years now. Although I only use the programs maybe once a month, I've purchased them all (Designer/Photo/Publisher) just to support their licensing model. One great feature you didn't mention (because you probably didn't experience it yet): All their programs share the same file format. What this allows you to do is install all the programs, then work on a flyer in Publisher. You notice something off with the logo, so you just click the menu bar and it hands off the whole document to Designer to fix that logo. Then you want to change the color balance of a photo, you click another button to switch to Photo, where you can edit the file, save it, then return to publisher and continue writing, etc. And just to note I'm not just talking about their "persona" buttons that basically change view/behavior. During all of this all the programs keep a full WYSIWYG view. Only thing better would be one big program with everything inside, but then again more modular isn't wrong either.

I love it! I learnt how to use it in 3 days after years of not using design software due to a career change. I started out with their 3 month free trial and by the end I had created my own branded drop shipping company and website. I've now bought the software with no regrets and use it daily.

Cant afford to keep 'renting' my software, so bought outright the affinity suite. So far, it can do everything I was doing before and more. Plus, the suite is integrated, so its easy to switch between vector and raster based projects. I'm glad I have got in to Affinity early, so I can learn as it matures.

Waiting for Master Classes for the entire Affinity Suite of products. You produce some of the best tutorials out there and thanks.

Affinity designer has a lot of features, like the "Pixel Persona": a buildt-in pixel editor, the CMYK color space, the beautiful price, and there are more features coming soon, like blending and even a sort of shape builder tool!

I would love to see Affinity Designer tutorials. I love all of your Inkscape tutorials and I have recommended this channel to a lot of my designer friends. Keep up the good work.

Just a small detail: you don't have to manually input stroke width in Inkscape, you can use mouse wheel on the number box. Really handy. Thanks for the review!

Question: Would we like to see Affinity tutorials?

Answer: Yes. Yes we would

I personally enjoy your design tutorials more than most, however I'm not an inkscape user. To watch you do your work on Affinity would be ace.

I love how you explain everything so in depth, I don't even play with inkscape that much anymore, but I love looking at you work magic from base design principals .

OMG FINALLY YES!!! Of course I would love to see step-by-step tutorials all about Affinity photo and designer! I left a comment on one of your last videos last week talking about this it's like you heard me. I was learning inkscape from you but I need it something a bit different since I'm making graphics for print so I was looking for step-by-step start to finish tutorials and my search was very limited so I went back to you my main source from inkscape.

First I want to thank you for sharing your knowledge about these programs. I recently started using Inkscape after watching your videos. I definitely would like to learn more about Affinity Designer.
