Easy one step verification method of whether a group is backed by America, NATO in general, or special non-member status regimes like Qatar: has the group attacked "Israel"? If the answer is no, well... there you go. Orientalist slippery slope of saying "the Middle East conflicts are so complicated" avoided, as well. It's kind of wild that you're asking if the US is supporting the fighters, which you labeled as "militia, " but you didn't really explain how or why you consider them terrorists. You jumped straight to calling them terrorists without giving any reasoning. It seems like you've already made up your mind about their actions and the rights they have to fight.
