As a kid we used to catch them on our grandparents garden every summer because there was a river next to their garden.
These little fellas would usually get too close to the river underground and went straight up leaving all the mole hills around their garden.
We always picked them up into our little bucket, went on the other side of the river and released them there so the garden would not be "destroyed" and the moles would live.

In our country we have this children story character "Happy Mole" so every kid LOVED the moles and didn't want them to be harmed in any way possible.
Of course our grandpa wanted to deploy all sorts of traps and poisons on 'em.
So instead me and my sister would spend days waiting for 'em to save them :^)
