All 3 are great offerings, and i love 10v/k390, but i think my favorite is a high hrc cruwear. I've just always had great results with cruwear.

Great topic, thank for bringing it up. I use the BHQ one the most, but another great old school reference is the chart published by AG Russell. Lots of detail there, and that guy really knew his knives and steel! 👍

S30V is absolutely considered to be a high end steel so that’s correct it’s also what the benchmade 940 used which is considered to be the best edc ever made

I like the blade hq charts. I understand they base those charts off of Larin Thomas' 60hrc ratings. Great short!

If I purchase a bug out, deka or bel air am I able to sharpen those blades with a simple V style sharpener that I just pass the blade through? Sorry for such a naive question. I just want to get one high quality pocket knife but am concerned that I won’t be able to keep it sharp by myself if the steel is too hard. Thanks.

Some of the steels on the Blade HQ charts are a little off. They need to update them ASAP. For instance, CruWear is listed as mediocre (5 when it should be 8) in the toughness department. When in actuality, CruWear is tougher than MagnaCut. Also, imho LC200N should be considered Premium when you factor in the price, performance, and propertie😮s.

Aren’t the conditions needed for an optimum heat treatment very well known? Isn’t equipment available that can provide exactly the right temperatures and machinery necessary to correctly treat thousands of blades? It’s not really clear what makes it so hard to do!
