The best advice I’ve ever gotten from you was, morning routine: oil and balm, night routine: oil and butter, never deviated from that and beard has been in the healthiest stage it’s ever been in even though you later said you no longer use balm.

Dan! I am completly in your debt on my beard journey for the first time at year 32. Still kinda lost and not sure about this... but your videos help so much. So THANK YOU.

Never understood the difference between balm and butter. Thanks for the easy-to-understand explanation. 👍

I was always a butter guy since I showered at night but recently switched to showering in the morning, and made the switch to balm and dang I wish I had earlier. My beard styles so much better with balm! Thanks as always for the tips Dan!

My routine starts when i get home from work believe it or not. Take a shower, as a typical man I use
shampoo on my whole body and just dab my beard. Then I have beard shampoo that I put in just my beard. Get out and dry up and somewhat dab beard dry with a towel.

Place beard oil in palm and massage into beard to skin, then use beard butter over everything after.

Wake up and since I like to wear beard rings sometimes ill put beard butter in again before the rings. Then after I put the rings in place, some small amounts of beard balm on the parts of the beard that does not have a ring.

If not rings no beard balm, just beard butter on whole beard like step before rings.

Keep that beard healthy

I use both during the day. It all depends on what I am dealing g with at work. Keep them both in the drawer. I also use butter as part of my night routine.

Just started back using balms several months ago. I prefer a nice conditioning balm. I don't really need it for styling it. Still use butter but now prefer a butter with wax in it.

I have always been a butter guy, but tried balm lately during the day & butter at night….the butters that worked best for me during the day had a little bees wax, so I upped it to balm for holding strength…this seems to work better for me…love the video & make sure everyone experiments to see what works for them 👍🏼

Great video Dan. When I started my beard journey 2+ years ago I used balm during the day and butter at night. Once my beard has achieved the 5-6 inch length and weight I stopped using balm and use just oil and style. I still use butter at night for nourishment. I have noticed with the medium beard and the neckline support hairs I feel that the weight/feeling that the balm gives versus the styling I get I can achieve without balm. If I had a shorter beard I would be using Balm and Butter again.

I typically use both in the stache. Balms during the day only when styling a more natural styled handlebar mustache and butters at night for the nourishing effects and to rehydrate the stache unless I leave wax in overnight.

For me it depends on how I feel on that specific day, I might use sometimes butter through the day, when i just want my beard to be more natural but still styled and go with balm when I know I want the shape to stay in place nicley

When I use products other than oil, it’s a butter.
A low wax balm has been useful for sure! Another great video Dan

Late to this video, however I use balm on my mustache for the day because my mustache hairs are much more rough and coarse than my beard. I use just oil for my beard for the day. At night I use butter on both!

For my white beard I find butter is essential since the hair tends to be dry and brittle without it.

Great video Dan! I don't use beard balm. I use Beard butter at night for conditioning and prefer my beard butter have no wax in it.

Beard butter team here! I don't like the feeling of balm, I like my beard to move freely and naturally. I've been using beard butter at night before going to bed for nourishmentfor a while now. I've got a very thirsty beard so I put quite a lot, to the point that my beard looks a bit greasy a first, but then a few minutes later my beard has absorbed all that "excess" butter and look normal.

Also, I always used a butter that had a little bit of wax in it, but I recently tried a butter with no wax at all. I like it a lot more! Much easier to apply it throughout my beard, with less pulling of the hair. I also started using it(just a little, not nearly as much as what I use at night) after styling my beard with the heated brush, it's nice to rehydrate the beard after using heat (which obviously dry out the beard a bit), without messing up the styling and natural look and feel. I also found out it helps with static, as we're slowly going into wintertime where the air tend to be very dry here.

I think it depends on the product, I have two different butters, and one of the butters is more like a cream that I love using during the day. It’s light, and provides a little bit of moisture and shape. I stack that with just a pea sized amount of beard balm, for a bit of hold and it works beautifully. I have another butter that I use, strictly at night, because it’s extremely heavy and nourishing. My goal is to have a soft to the touch beard, that is not glistening, oily or shiny. I like a dry, yet soft and natural feeling- looking beard, if that makes sense. I have a small (compared to Dan C) to medium sized beard.

The company I use has beard/mustache wax. So I started using that a little while ago. Gives my beard the perfect hold. Use it for my morning routine.
