My beard is medium length and pretty thick. Balm was useful for control when it was short. Now that I keep it longer, I only use oil. I found as it got longer, it naturally stays in place with just oil and a little heat when styling. Happy weekend everyone!

I don't use beard balm either, because I like for my beard to just move naturally rather than waxed in place. You give great advice on beard health and grooming tips. Literally when I started "No Shave November" I would have been totally lost without your beard advice videos. Thanks for all your help!

I agree with all of that. I stopped using balm after about 6-8 months. I like free flow feeling!

Every persons beard is different. Mine is a large thicker beard with some gray down the middle. I have been using Honest Amish balm and love it. I’ve tried many other “butter” products, but this balm is da bomb. Use it often as it leaves my beard feeling good and tames the bushy sides a bit. I’m beginning to realize that Honest Amish has some really, really good products as I like their premium oil too. The low cost is a bonus.

I'm working on growing my beard longer and you're right, it does help w/ styling and control. When my beard is longer, its weight keeps it in place. I totally agree. Keep up the great info!

I'm so glad you went into the field of education. You've just got that knack/art of conveying pertinent information on any level (lay person, advanced, etc.). It is a talent, for sure. You have it. I'd gladly be a student of yours from grade 1 to post-graduate! ;-)

Thanks for the info, I did not know balm was for short beard mostly. Thanks for the video. I try to watch them all. Keep it up

Well Dan you schooled me on this one. I was still using balm to help keep the beast under control. And as you pointed out the first disturbance will cause a beard memory maneuver that may or may not be desirable. So for the past few days I’ve just gone with the oil and voila the beard behavior is stunning. It’s counterintuitive that no balm would equate to better style retention, but it does. Thanks for the great idea.

I stopped using balm about 6 months ago. I use oil and butter now. Blow dry and and round brush does good for mine

Great video & tips!

13+ inch beard at the moment & currently do not use balm on the beard. I feel it makes the beard fork show more. Dan if you can help here please, maybe because of the ‘stickiness’ of the balm?

I have been using balm occasionally on the stache. I feel like the balm is helping keep the stache up and away from the mouth, giving the heat used some extra holding power. Although using a heated brush alone works just fine.

Thank you Dan & keep it up!

I need the balm. My favorites are strong hold balms because my beard has a mind of it own. The best balms I have are Luxurious Bastard, NoresmanBeard & Beard Baron. Those balms help me so much it’s no joke. If the balm is light I use it as a body lotion.

I have a medium beard- for me with the coarseness of the white beard I need all the moisture I can get, so I like a balm because I feel like it locks it in

I like the balm for work, i have a small beard and i like the way it looks with it on. Before bed, i wash it with beard shampoo and use beard butter with no scent. It's dry by the time i go lay down. Oil i hardly use, i don't like how oily oil is on my beard. Oil is for the beard skin I keep hearing.

OMG your beard looks the most nourished and healthiest ever! So cool!

My beard is incredibly curly and I’ve found that using beard oil in combination with the balm ultimately makes it feel dry and brittle, particularly at 4-5 months of growth. Curly beards are debatably a different beast. So, through trial and error, I’ve discovered that my beard is naturally soft and benefits from using the oil as soon as I hop out of the shower. The balm is only beneficial in the short beard stages for my hair follicles. Great video!

I have a long, thick, curly beard. I have to tie up my beard at work and balm helps keep my sides in place.

As a man with a short beard ....balm is still in my routine. Even tho i use butter whenever the company offers it only but i do still love beard balm. But with the mask i do realize I’m getting a lot of beard pimples but the way my beard set up i be needing that extra hold and nourishments under the mask

I LOVE the feeling of my beard blowing in the wind! I experienced that for the first time not too long ago and it was an interesting sensation.
I've only used balm a handful of times. I really wasn't a huge fan, even when my beard was shorter. It was harder to melt down and didn't seem to provide any extra hold for my stubborn beard.

These are very good points Dan, thank you. I wear butter almost exclusively vs balm. I did use more balm when It was shorter, but now my man mane is about 6-7 inches and medium/thick thickness so I rarely use it. I feel that gravity and the butter holds it just fine w/ a little heat. My beard is straight in some spots and curly in others.

I quit using balm years ago for your same three reasons.
Oil and butter is all I use.
Best beard decision ever.
Having my beard not sway with the wind defeats the purpose of having a gloriously long man mane.
