Born n raised NY, Lived in the south over 20 yrs. When we implants contribute to expansions like freeways and such and increased cost of living, we start to take away the essence of what makes the region so loveable to begin with. I remember back in 2000s, when Austinites were in an uproar over the massive changes, and I didn't fully understand until now. I think NY, LA etc should stay as is including the people, and let places like Wilmington etc, retain it's authenticity. When we turn these places into metro areas, then what's left? Why are folks leaving bigger cities for smaller ones then turning them into where they left from? Makes no sense.

My family and I love the winters here. The temperature stays in the 60's (most of the winter) and the traffic that is a pain during summer time is gone. We have a 2 year old and have never not had something to do in the winter. Visit the beach. Go for a walk in one of the many parks. Go fishing or visit a pier. Visit the aquarium or fort fisher. Go for a walk downtown and grab some food at one of the many amazing local restaurants. Go for a walk at the beach and grab some drinks and listen to live music. The list go's on and on. The winter is amazing in Wilmington. You must have lost touch with why you want to live in a coastal town in the first place.

Prostitution, Drugs, Scam Artists, Self-Promotion, Narcissism. Shootings. Other than that, it's really great.

I was born & raised in Wilmington (1979) and the 90's/2000s were blissful here. Sadly, it is no longer the same.

Yup, sucks. If you are thinking of moving here, don't. You'll hate it. Stay where you are.

Surprised GenX didn’t make the list. That is the #1 thing people considering moving here need to know!

I've lived here both from 2004-'07 and currently. Biggest negatives to me are everything is way spread out and roads get very bottle necked. Very rarely do you ever get a week of sunny clear skies during the hottest months here. Thirdly, the southern culture and small town charm here have all but disappeared. I think you'll only love living here if you're a college kid who's going to live on the beach with other college kids or if you're over 60, drive a Buick SUV and sometimes like wearing a sweater around your neck or are a Trader Joe's hipster who prefers the beaches over the mountains. I think that's about it. I really miss the working class feel Wilmington used to have so many years ago, that's for sure.

You forgot not being able to left at Kerr and Market and having to do uturns everywhere is the dumbest thing ever. I saw a fire truck that had to do a uturn in front of the uturn I was doing in monkey junction. The road system is dumb stupid beyond belief. Spent a year there and just moved back to Chicago, thank God. And the potholes suck too. Messed up my front end.

Hey guys I think a great video would be to showcase Wilmington's robust recovery community. I've been told it's one of the top 12 in the country for how many NA and AA meetings they have, along with faith based programs like celebrate recovery. you can probably find eight or more meetings a day. Very strong. We actually just lost one of our leaders to covid last month, Wayne Ray who owned the launch pad recovery houses. RIP Wayne...

I grew up on Wrightsville beach, most of my family is in Wilmington. It is definitely a beach town.My number one hate living there was the tourist.

Also remember that you can’t really dig too far without finding human remains

Nailed em all. One thing Wilmington needs is a legit arena for legit concerts and events. Indoor arena. 8-12K seats.
As a guy who loves live shows and events, living here is less fun because of that. 2-5 hour drive to real events in Raleigh, etc. The Greenfield Lake Ampitheatre is awesome, but they gotta get artists people have heard of.

I spent 2 weeks in Wilmington this winter and hated the traffic…I definitely would not want to visit in-season or live there. The beaches are crazily overdeveloped, as are inland areas. Not the kind of beach community I would enjoy.

Ah, those cool, still, moist mornings. Step outside and BAM! Cat piss smells more like ammonia, Fortron's toxic cloud is definitely more sulfurous. At least ya can't taste GenX. LOL-ish. Great vid.

Even FBI on website suggested not safe to live in Wilmington due to crime…

I love it here. Nearly 28 years I have been here and I keep finding new places to explore. As a local artist it inspires me a lot. We have a fairly strong art community too. Although not prefect, It's home.

It's turned into....Jersey...just like it's population...imagine that. The people that moved to Wilmington made it just like the place they left. No southerners in Wilmington. NJ-NY- Ohio- Pittsburgh - Philly - Mass. It's a true Northeastern city now.
