the part where the tree hits the helicopter out of nowhere and it goes mute is a cinematic masterpiece

Black Sabbath Paranoid fits a lot more into a helicopter scene than Fortunate Son. Badass

This movie deserves an Oscar, just for the scene from 2:03 to 4:03, direction, cinematography, bgm, CGI everything was mindblowing

And remember the story of Icarus, whose father gave him wings of wax. Warned him not to fly too close to the sun. But the exhilaration was too great. So he flew higher and higher, until the sun melted his wings, and he fell into the sea. The US Army is not an irresponsible father. So they gave us wings of hot Pennsylvania steel, guaranteed not to melt.

I love how within 5 minutes of locating a previously undiscovered island, in typical 1960s American fashion they immediately start blasting rock music and bombing the shit out of it for "science"

Bruh I love this seen, I really miss high levels of cheesiness in movies. Just seeing the explosions in the reflection of the dudes glasses, and then the head on shot of the dude screaming “INCOMING!!!” I love it so much.

Fun fact about this movie! the part where the helicopter gets hit by the tree wasn't even in the original script! This part of the movie was filmed over Ha Long Bay, Vietnam. A 60-year-old local farmer who was not informed that there was a movie being filmed at the time saw the helicopters and, fearing that he was somehow back in the past, uncovered an antique rocket launcher from the 1960s and fired on the cast of the movie, destroying one of the helicopters and killing the actors onboard. The cameramen, however, never stopped filming, and the producers liked it so much that they kept it and added the tree in post-production.

1-It was probably what you were looking for
2- It's me every time I call napalm strike in Rising storm 2 Vietnam... I love this shot so much!

That sudden whiplash of the mood, it’s all chipper and awesome like a classic American movie as the soldiers begin their operation smoothly, with upbeat rock music in the background, then *WHAM!* An entire fucking _tree_ with all of its branches still attached comes sailing out of the horizon and impales a chopper to the ground. All while the music actually continues for a few seconds, like the sudden action caught the movie itself off guard.

It’s interesting to see how the two modern Kong movies (as well as the 30s one) took so many references from the “Caspak” series by Edgar Rice Burroughs (Tarzan, Barsoom, Pellucidar, etc). Both movies seem to depict an island surrounded by some kind of barrier (2005 Kong has fog, 2017 Kong has a perpetual storm system), thus cutting the island off from the rest of the world. In Burroughs’ first book in 1924, the land on the island (the book actually describes it more as a lost continent) is practically encased inside a gigantic natural wall.

Most obvious of all is the prehistoric life that should’ve been extinct. The lifeforms are all horrific and voracious and aim to kill anything that moves. The 2017 Kong film also has some unknown species of deer that live on the island; the same thing is mentioned in Burroughs’ novel. And of course, the islands have a populace of people that have been there for millennia.

3:43 Welcome to Estalia gentlemen. I will not lie, the chances of your survival are small. Some may even turn against your friends as living corpses, but you have my word that I will use my arcane gifts to ensure your bodies are given unto Morr's Garden. This is the greatest reward, more than even gold, for the fate of your soul is an eternal concern. Now come, follow me. Strike down the undead that rise against us, allow me to find this eldritch amulet. I ask not for my own selfish studies, but for the good of the Empire!
