I'm an American, and I think "You're the Voice" is the exact right song for this moment in our history. John Farnham of course does the best rendition. But I have to point people to Rebecca St. James' cover, it has a nice alternative rock flair and the same sense of empowerment.

I'm a lifelong American who "got" John Farnham from the moment I heard "You're the Voice" in 1986. It immediately obtained a permanent part of my playlist and I've been enjoying it for all these years. As for most Americans "don't get it" you are right but that was simply due to lack of promotion by his record label in the US meaning the song never got any exposure here, not particularly the fault of the music fans themselves. If you check out youtube reaction videos, you will see many Americans over the past few years reacting to and loving the song. And Kamala's use in her videos has already inspired some to access the song online and discover what it's all about so I suspect many more Americans are about to "get it." I love John Farnham and I support Kamala Harris so I am incredibly happy to see this happening. Kamala is "the voice" of the majority of Americans who are sick and tired of the embarrassment and danger that DT has brought to our country.

If using the song helps save the world from the orange man then let it be. It was originally written in the UK as a protest against nuclear arms.

John Farnham's former manager said that he has "fiercely protected this song’s use for decades..." when he was asked for permission to have it used in Australia's "The Voice " referendum. He agreed long before he knew the referendum would turn into a such a divisive political space. The manager also said that "You’re the Voice is not aligned with any political party. It is aligned with humanity." It's a shame the program didn't discuss this.

"How long must we look at each other down the barrel of a gun...?" Good question for America to be asking itself. Maybe someone will listen.

You could have at least shown the whole clip or linked to it. As for "down under", Donald thinks it's grab-able.

I'm proud that John Farnham in Australian is chipping in to support democracy but actually like to see a video with people from all around the world tell Donald Trump to bugger off

It’s the message not the singer or where he’s from. Just be happy that “your” singer’s song has been used on world stage.

I wonder if they'll also use John's "That's Freedom" track as well....

It's not weird. It's brilliant that Kamala Harris is using it. This election is incredibly important for the whole world imo. That song is a political "we the people" song. It's John's song and he can let whoever he likes use it. It's about people power. In an interview, i heard John say he didn't "make it" in America because they couldn't find a genre for him. They sure missed out. I'd like every ordinary person in the world to know this song and what it means. You're a tad parochial about it guys! 🙂

You’re the Voice is the perfect campaign anthem for young Americans. I was thinking that a few weeks ago 🤔

This song is a great anthem against gun violence as well.

The song so flawlessly illustrates what we're going through in the (dis)United States right now, and for those who were too young to know it when it came out, they're falling in love with it now. It's the perfect anthem for our stand against the relentless fear and hate campaign from the right wing on our freedoms and democracy. All credit to John Farnham that his music can bridge the emotions of both our nations so beautifully.
