Benedict Cumberbatch on Possibility of Sherlock Season 5

Sherlock is a stylish, clever, and uncommonly cinematic television take on a detective you may have heard of by the name of Sherlock Holmes. It also gave us the breakthrough performance of Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role, whom we now see centering the MCU as that mysterious magic-man Doctor Strange, whom I might describe as "Sherlock Holmes if he could literally cast spells." Sherlock, which originated on BBC in 2010 before blowing up internationally on Netflix, ran for four seasons — sorry, it's British, so "four series" — and a one-off special. The last episode aired in 2017, with the very final episode titled "The Final Problem."

And yet... could we get more Sherlock anytime soon? A Sherlock Season 5, if you will? Another one-off special episode? A movie? A Robert Downey Jr. MCU/Holmes-verse crossover where we see both Sherlocks, Iron Man, and Doctor Strange play a game of Parcheesi?!

Collider's own Steve Weintraub got to ask Cumberbatch about more Sherlock when interviewing him for his upcoming spy thriller The Courier (he did not ask about my multiverse Parcheesi idea, which, fair). And Cumberbatch's answer definitely leans more toward "probably not" than "definitely yes." But there remains a glimmer of hope:

"I'm the worst person to ask on this because I never say never, obviously. But I don't know. And I'm the worst person to ask because my slate's pretty, pretty full at the moment, as is Martin [Freeman, Watson] and all the other key players involved. So, who knows? Maybe one day, if the script's right. And I say 'the script,' maybe it could be a film rather than the series. Who knows? But anyway, not for now."

As much as I would love a 5th and final season I think it should end where it is before potentially doing more damage to Watson’s character. For the past 2 seasons he has had practically no reason to be Sherlock’s partner. In season 1 and 2 he balanced Sherlock by being essentially the binoculars to his microscope, seeing the big picture and what was right in front of them while Sherlock was seeing the smallest details in EVERYTHING. That dynamic has not only died but now it seems that the only person who has more control over Watson’s life than himself is Sherlock.

Hello, l've watched all the previous seasons of Sherlock! I love the Benedict Cumberbatch's performance of Sherlock Holmes!! I think is the best Sherlock 's portrayal! So l'm waiting for the 5 season!!

A Christmas special would be perfect to start with, I think this was what Sherlock was meant to be the first time (correct me if I'm wrong). And not too much Rosie or personal drama, crime mystery and a bit of comedy just like the old days.It would be perfect

They just gotta wait until after the final copywrites expire in 2023 so they don't have to worry about ACD's estate coming after them for making Sherlock 'too soft' with helping John raise Rosie, even if she didn't exist in the ACD stories. My theory. Of course on top of all the MCU stuff.

They better up their game if this does happen. The previous season was so weird with the sister and stuff. Plus I hated the stupid storyline where Martin's character gets married to the woman and she turns out to be some weird assassin

it is is been five years now, If benedict doesn't had any plan to returning as sherlock, then they are should search for new casting for role. we are waited so long for that, I'm really waited patiently until he is done with second install of doctor strange movie, but now it is ended. he is still like not warmful for the idea of return. he is all the recent interviews about sherlock, become sound to me, he doesn't had any desire to return. because they are throwing up to ball to each other, him and showrunners. there is no need to force benedict If he is done with that officially. benedict is not only one that actor exist in hollywood, this is make included for martin as well. the only reason I'm pissing off that, they are not honest with us, all they had to say, they are officially done with series, they are not had any desire return, we are understand, and move on. but they are playing with us, give us false hope, that is what is pissing me off. I still love them, but if that is case, they had to tell the truth

I love Sherlock to death, but please no new season. The ending of S4 works fine as an ending for the show and too much time has passed since the last season. Just declare it's finished and let it rest.

Yeah but will it even be worth it though? If they are gonna do another season or more it better be better than the latest season because honestly it was shit, too rushed and far too short.
