Find North South with a Clock or Watch.
What happens if you don't have a GPS, or a compass and you need to find where north and south are. Well if you have a watch or a clock that has an hour hand and you can see the sun, you can easily find the direction of north and south. This will work reasonably well in the northern hemisphere as long as you aren't near the equator or the north pole. In intermediate latitudes in the northern hemisphere is direction finding method works better than you might expect. Just take your watch or clock and point the hour hand directly to the sun. Then halfway between the 12 o'clock and the hour hand draw an imaginary line. That line points south. The opposite direction is north of course and east and west directions are easily obtained. That's all there is to it and the accuracy of this method is pretty good when used in the continental United States. As long as you have an accurate watch and can see the sun, you have another alternative backup method to find direction and find north, south , eat and west without a compass or GPS.
