This guy is awesome, clear instructions and clearly knowledgeable. I usually use his videos for guidance (I’m a diy’er)!

Excellent video. Easy to follow, well explained. I am redecorating my house and have removed 3 radiators so far with this method.

Thank you. This method worked perfectly and I have been able to successfully remove and clean out two radiators having never tried before. The radiators heat up perfectly now all the sludge inside has gone and we have a cosy warm house again! 🙂👍👍

Just used this guide to remove a radiator in my first house. Much, much easier than I expected it to be, so thank you for the great instructions!

TRVs can be a pain in the arse if they don't shut off! I picked up some valve clamps the other day to stop the drips.

Don't forget if the rad has been balanced correctly you need to make a note of the number of turns on the lock shield so when you turn it back in the rad will work at the correct temp.

Good stuff. Gave me the confidence to remove mine in new house. Annoyingly though the connection was on the bottom of the rads rather than the side which did make it more difficult.

If there is some play in the pipes, it is possible to lay some blocks down to support the radiator down on its face, undo the fittings slightly, lift he radiator off the wall and lay it on the blocks and tighten the fittings without emptying the radiator. I have seen this done but it does seem a little risky as if it goes wrong, you could end up draining the whole system.

Hi James, have you installed or used radiators that drop/pivot down from the wall for decorating or removing with no draining at all?

Thanks! Since I’m not putting radiator back. Do I need to put some caps on the exposed pipes? Or will the central heating be ok with the pipe valves just left closed?

Thank you for this!! So helpful. How long could we leave it like this? We need to remove our radiator to remove old linoleum, put down new tile, and paint the wall behind, so we’ll probably need at least a couple days. If it’s not too cold, could we leave this for a few days?

I've seen a method where you close both ends, let the pressure off through the bleed valve and close, then just SLIGHTLY slacken off both ends.
Then lift the rad off the bracket and tilt forward, giving you enough room to work behind.
All depends on how much give is in the pipes, and your way can be used to allow flushing a cold spot rad too!
