While Canada is a great country, there are still areas where it falls short—particularly when it comes to racism and discrimination. Canada often portrays itself as a multicultural haven with a polite, respectful atmosphere, and while that’s partly true, there’s also an insidious level of racism, microaggressions, and discrimination that many may not notice. That's true, racism comes in all countries and all nationalities and colors. There is no such thing as reverse racism either. Just racism.

My friend from Baltimore doing grad school in Ontario used to check us pretty hard when anyone tried to say that Canada was just as racist as America. She said that we truly have no idea what we’re talking about. This was when Hilary Clinton was nominee for president and my friend said “right now our least racist option for president (Hilary) has a documented, long, loving friendship with a KKK grand wizard, we have legalized slavery in the form of the industrial prison complex that overwhelming jails African Americans more than any other race, and it’s completely socially acceptable for people to walk around with flags representing the side that tried to keep slavery legal and no one bats an eye.”
