Great tutorial, however the problem is not .mov files, it is the codec being used. mov just like avi and wmv are container formats. Unfortunately your best bet is to transcode the footage. Since you are editing on a mac, I would suggest apple prores 422.

click on the timeline window where all the layers are, then click "F4" on PC or "FN and F4" on Mac. it should switch between the transfer options.

@CrazyDelcyTV Yes I did find it useful! I do not have After Effects, but it helped me realise that my video editor (Cinelerra, a free and open source video editor only available on Linux) can do this also, so thanks :)
