Rock 'n’ roll has a long history of lead singers with exceptional signature voices. Rock frontman like Robert Plant, Freddie Mercury, and Jim Morrison are hard to come by these days.

Unfortunately, we lost another great rock frontman recently when Soundgarden, Audioslave, and Temple of The Dog singer Chris Cornell was found dead in a hotel room on May 18, 2017. Cornell’s four-octave range and trademark belting voice will be missed and his death came as a huge shock to fans.

Cornell had just finished performing at a Soundgarden concert in Detroit before being found dead. He had been busy in the year prior to that concert as well. Here’s what the final 12 months of Chris Cornell’s life were like.

Chris' death hit me hard. I love Soundgarden, and his solo work. When he took his life, I didn't know he was suffering from depression. I suffered with it, and I know how hard it is to overcome.... But he left us a great legacy in his music.

Chris, what a beautiful soul. It's very sad to think that in this day and age mental illness is like a dirty little secret and is still so misunderstood. He will be sadly missed forever.

First got into Soundgarden from The Avengers soundtrack. I was 16. My taste in music was never the same after that.
Chris Cornell, we miss you 3000.

I miss Chris Cornell, as a former career stage tech I loved working for Chris and even Chester, after their deaths I quit working music because the pain was hard, over the years of my career I seen a lot of loss from good artists but Chris and Chester would be the greatest of losses in music.

When you put everything you have into your art, you will eventually have nothing more to give but your life. Rest in Peace Chris Cornel, you helped mold my teenage years and probably got me through them alive.

Still think of him and listen every day. Glad that Lili is running her mental health podcast - Depression. It has a life of its own and takes the lives of our own.

Cried so much the day I learned he died. Many tears for a great man and vocalist I never met.

I remember when he died. I was listening to Soundgarden the previous night, all night. And something told me something was wrong, so I kept listening to Soundgarden. And when I saw the news of Chris’s death, I felt as if I somehow already knew it, but I was in so much shock and I was so upset, I couldn’t even cry. I was totally numb. RIP Chris Cornell, you will never be forgotten, your legacy will forever live on..

His death broke my heart. So freaking sad that he couldn't get help with his problems. RIP Chris.

I saw Chris Cornell live during his beautiful acoustic concert in Rome in April 2016. Fantastic Negrito opened for him. It was a great concert - Chris seemed so chatty, full of life and just generally the opposite of someone you'd think would take their life! I'm still incredulous. He was such a beautiful human being and artist.
