When searching for my house HOAs were deal breakers. I found one in a non-HOA neighborhood and I've never been happier.

This is why both homes I've owned, I made sure to get nice neighborhoods that don't have HOAs. If they ever try to make an HOA, I'll deny joining.

I actually used to live in an HOA free neighborhood and I regret taking that for granted.
When I lived there, me and my family built a bigger fence for the property and we also built two sheds big enough for a person to live in each one. Along with that, we also grew two mango trees that gave us mangos.

Now I can’t even dig a fucking hole before they get all pissy and tell me to remove it.
Fuck the HOA, it’s a dumbass system that doesn’t need to exist

Ill never deal with the HOA. My neighborhood is quite everyone minds their own business. Never a noise issue or complaint. Everyones retired halfway on their way out or new young married couples with kids. I love it here.

Plenty of us don’t have an HOA, so “need” seems like strong language when describing the necessity of such an organization as an HOA.

HOAs are just a second income stream for the property development company that puts together the housing development. Once the HOA transitions over to the home owners the developers still make money because they own the property management company that they hire to run the HOA for the home owners. In most areas they aren't required to disclose this, even to the home owners.

The few I’ve been in, I didn’t need approval for stuff I did in the back as long as there was a fence up. They all told me pretty much anything done at the front of the home will need approval.

Some are a complete pain to deal with and some aren’t that bad.
