Book vs. Movie: Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli Follow Merry and Pippin

The movie version of the chase of the Three Hunters cuts out a huge amount of detail that gives us a much richer view of Middle-earth, and some character growth for Pippin.

In the novel Merry and Pippin is only getting silver belts in Lórien, no knives. So the knives Aragorn finds among the dead orc bodies is actually the later VERY importent Númenorian knives. Luckily he had the strength to carry them during the running.

My favourite lore channel! No overproduced video, panned over picture or distracting music and dramatic scripting, just natural talking. Thank you!

Also for reference 10 Leagues is about 36 miles so yeah they ran a lot

Grishnákh seems to have been that most dangerous of creatures -- a clever Orc. He certainly knew some stuff about the War that no one else knew except maybe the Nazgul. The others were just following orders... but Grishnákh knew quite a bit more.

I enjoy your commentary very much, as usual. I love the fact that they talk about eventually being in the book. 😆

Another excellent analysis of an episode in the book and film.

Also really liked your impression of a Moria orc!

;)

The orc 'medicine' might be a mix of mead (or water), honey (for energy), and a narcotic (to numb pain and lower inhibitions).

Thanks for this. Haven't read the books in a while now. Was good to have a refresher

"It's a lot more nuanced and interesting in the novel"

Yeah, that'll pretty much sum up any analysis of the differences between the movies and the books.

About that "Sauron does not allow anybody to write or say the name 'Sauron", there is some mischief among his servants: Both the messenger at Lonely mountain whom Glóin is talking about at ther Council of Elrond and 'Sauron's Mouth' ignores that strictly forbidden rule. ; D

The knives they left were the elven knives. Aragorn mentions how the orcs didn’t like elvish weapons and left them behind

I'm always disappointed how little movie-Rohan looks like Rohan-Rohan.

Sometimes this one scene comes back to my mind in return of the king. We know from earlier in The Two Towers, that Faramir learned of Gandalfs death. Even so, once he meets Gandalf the White for the first time, there seems to be no nod to that previous scene. I might be just brushing over something or I could imply it happened off scene. But it always was a thing that comes back to mind sometimes... What are your thoughts on that? Cheers.

It might just be my graphics card, but this is your only video where your scleras (eye whites) look bluish and your lips look kind of purple.
