Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium is falling apart - leaving the Reds well behind the pack as their Premier League rivals build shiny new grounds and extend their existing ones.

The stadium hasn't been renovated for 18 years and is showing extreme signs of wear and tear - with fans often getting soaked when it rains thanks to severe roof damage.

United co-owner Jim Ratcliffe set up the Old Trafford regeneration task force in February - soon after he arrived - which includes Gary Neville, Andy Burnham and is headed by Lord Coe.

And in this video, with the help of AI, SunSport has done a deep dive into how United could extend their ground, their options for building a brand new one, how much the projects would cost and of course, what they would look like.

New stadium. I love OT been going for 50 years. The one good thing the Glazers have done is keep buying up the land around OT since they arrived. They own most of the Industrial Complex and all the land around OT and paid pennies for it… once development starts they will make hundreds of millions from it and set sail for the sunset and Jim will own the club… right now you could build 8 Old Traffords on the land they own..

Needs to be 100k seater stadium, we’re the only club that can fill it every week

I’m sorry 2032? There is absolutely no fing way old Trafford can last another 10 years. You’re insane bro. New stadium will be ready in 4 years max.

Worst thing is the Glazers received about 1.25 billion from Jim Ratcliffe, and not a penny has gone into the club.

Pain at the start of this video is very important for a Manchester United fan since great days are coming.

They could build a new stadium with aesthetics like Old Trafford, so it still feels like home. Kind of like the new Queen Mary ocean liner is thoroughly modern and is larger, but it has a somewhat similar look to the original.
They would have to recreate the Munich Disaster memorial at the clock corner though.
Modern stadiums tend to be kind of ugly though. Cake tins etc. Yuck.
No athletic track either, because it pushes seating away from the pitch, i.e., supporters need to be close to the action.
Safe standing would be good too.
Accessible seating section.
A quota of seating for youth at a big discount, which would help with building future support.

We need a new stadium, not a renovation of OT!

We are in a unique position where we can build on the same stretch of land and not have to move to the other side of Manchester. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to make the best of the best and that can only be done by a new stadium, a redesign will just be a missed opportunity.

The memories we have of OT won't go away, they will be with us for the rest of our lives. More important than the actual stadium is being in the same location, so the walk you do every week to OT is the same, the locals you see are the same, the shops you go to in the area are still there. That is where the memories will come back, not a redesign of current OT as we'd prob have to change 90% of what it currently is as it's all so old and outdated. So it won't even feel like OT anyway, it'll still look new.

The new stadium will have to take some design cues of current OT, e.g. the look of the current roof with the industrial look to it with the white steelwork. It can't just be a 'generic bowl' like many new stadiums are.

Makes no sense, other than financial reasons, to redesign OT compared to building a new stadium next door!

Problem is as long as the Glazers own United, we will still have the Glazers debt they are the cause of all the problems.

Well, you don't have to copy every American idea. But investments in a local construction project of this scale could boost and rejuvenate the local economy if planned well. Careful strategic plannings with stakeholders should be made before going ahead.

Keeping Old Trafford would be the best thing if you consider Manchester United, however, a new stadium and development of the area around it would not only benefit Manchester, but the entirety of the UK

why not build a new stadium and keep the old one as a museum...over time build a roof over the old stadium.

I would like to implement the current roof structure in some way into any new design but please don't design Old Trafford as a bowl.

United should build world class facilities and start courting the best players, getting them to run down their contract like Madrid now does and sign them for free.
